Cane Garden Bay Beach — Local services in Tortola

Probably one of, if not our favourite beach day on our recent cruise around the Carribean. We took a taxi from the main port which we shared with two other guests, costing $12 per person, each way, which we found to be quite reasonable. Our taxi driver, a local lady Alicia, was lovely, really friendly and helpful, stopping several times at some stunning viewpoints to allow us to take photos.

The beach itself is quite narrow, but the sand is soft, and the sea is beautifully blue and warm.

We stayed close to the Rythm + Sands restaurant and bar, probably the quietest part of the beach but certainly not lacking in atmosphere, where we had our sunbeds and both ate and drank.

We also rented a jetski from BVI Jetski which is right next door to Rythm + Sands, super friendly guys.

The beach is lovely, we walked from one end to the other, with the sea lapping at our feet. There are plenty of small shops and stalls, a handful of restaurants and bars dotted along the beach.

I really liked this quaint little place in Tortola, BVI. At first I thought that "okay, they brought us here in the middle or nowhere, to the beach, AND they didn't tell us to bring our swimming gear with us. How are we supposed to be spending two hours here with...nothing as far as I can see."

But then, a bit by a bit, the Cane Garden Bay started revealing the place to us, or so did it feel.

First, the local rum distillery (errhmmm the sailors don't drink water If I may) and then off to see if there's anything by this beach.

I was, and still am, a bit bummed about the fact that they didn't tell us we would end up on a beach. I definitely would've taken my swim gear with me! But, as these islands are very busy with the cruise ships (I think 5 of them at the time we were there) so they have to change the routes to avoid the crowds, and that's perfectly okay.

Back to the Cane Garden Bay. It had a lovely beach and, as I explored, a lot of interconnected bars, restaurants and souvenir shops and a hotel. Two hours in Cane Garden Bay went by too fast for me, I could've stayed there...

Gorgeous beach. You can access the beach and hire a bed and umbrella, but worth getting there early to secure a spot. I came from the cruise port and paid $24 USD return journey from the port, which included a sunbed hire. I also paid for transport on the return journey (rather than paying up front, just to be on the safe side of caution); the driver returned at the agreed time and I was back at the cruise port in plenty of time. There is plenty of food and drink available on the beach. I didn’t eat so can’t comment on the food, although beers/Carib lager is $5USD a bottle and there is rum punch and other drinks available. Overall, it is a really lovely, clean beach and perfect for swimming. Some people were snorkelling, on jet skis and paddleboarding. It was busy but didn’t feel over crowded or noisy. Definitely...
