Sunset Beach — Local services in Koh Rong Sanloem

Nice beach & tourist trap We spent 3 days, 2 nights at the beach. The beach is ok, clear water and some corals and many fish. The problem is the accomodation/restaurants which are so overpriced and overrated. They charge 50-90usd per bungalow (some have cheaper dorms), and of course the breakfast not included, and the food is super expensive and small portions. It's more or less double the price at saracen beach (which is already more expensive than mainland Cambodia), and for no reason really. For comparison, the RESORT on lazy beach is more isolated yet more accessible, and a bungalow with a private bathroom costs 60usd. Do yourself a favor and stay on the other side of the island, or anywhere else really, and just hike there (30-45min) without your gear, to enjoy the beach and see the sunset. Don't forget to bring light source if you plan to go back after dark. And a good mosquito repellent is important too

Arguably the best beach on the island. When you arrive you feel like you are on a completely different island to Saracen beach or M’Pai bay. If you are walking from Saracen beach I highly recommend you wear sturdy shoes. The walk is under an hour, however the terrain is extremely steep and tricky. We saw a few scooters on our way, however you would want to be an extremely experienced scooter rider to make the journey. There will also be a steep climb down to the beach which cannot be done on scooter. All worth it in the end! Plenty of bungalows serving amazing food and drink and they will let you use their hammocks etc if you order with them. If you are staying for the sunset and then making your way back to another part of the island by foot, make sure you bring mosquito repellent for the walk and also leave immediately after sunset to make sure you aren’t tackling the tough terrain in the dark. Playa semidesierta, pequeña y con mucha basura que arrastra la marea .Para extender la toalla, llenamos una bolsa. El agua está muy limpia y la arena es blanca. Hay dos bares- restaurantes a precios un poco más caros que en el resto de la isla ( incluido Lazy Beach), algunos bungalows para alquilar y otros establecimientos cerrados o abandonados ( los estragos del Covid). El más bonito es Samboo. Una especie de jaima gigante toda hecha de bambú. Es precioso. La comida es muy abundante, hecha en el momento de pedirla por lo que tardan en servir, pero merece la pena la espera. Muy bien servicio Eso sí, hay mayor concentración de perros y gatos que en toda la isla 😅. Un horror! Y lo peor es el acceso. Es peligroso y difícil. No está bien señalizado Son necesarias botas o como mínimo playeras. No es apto para todos los públicos y eso que lo han acondicionado con cuerdas en algunos tramos. El camino sale de al lado del bar octopusy, en el centro más o menos de Saracen Bay. A la izquierda se desvía hacia Lazy Beach ( pero para ir ahí es mejor el.otro camino, el de al lado del Sol Beach resort, es más corto y accesible con chanclas) y debes continuar recto. Nada más empezar, hay árboles con monos que según nos dijeron en el hotel, habían atacado hacia unos días a unos turistas porq iban con un palo...😳.Y ya comienza el ascenso entre barro, piedras y charcos. Bastante más fácil si continúas las señales de Sleeping trees, pero no el que va a Samboo, ese es horrible!! Es el que cogimos a la ida ( más de 1 hora sufriendo) , fue una pesadilla. Volvimos por el otro y mucho mejor. En 40 minutos lo completamos sin tanto esfuerzo Pero es imposible quedarte a ver el atardecer y pretender volver sin luz O haces noche o llevas un buen foco en la cabeza porq necesitas ambas manos para "escalar" !Nos lo perdimos!😔. Si no queréis pernoctar , os recomiendo verlo desde El Clift, ( un bar muy hippie y muy chulo en un alto ) en una excursión de medio día que te dejan en un pueblo más de una hora para verlo después de haber hecho snorkel e intentar pescar. Ojo, aquí también son imprescindibles al menos...
