It is located in the heart of Glacier National Park, and is about two hours drive from Revelstoke on the way to Golden, on the Trans-Canada Highway. There are beautiful views of the mountains all around. These mountains are popular for ski mountaineering, camping, hiking and mountain climbing. There is a Visitor Information Center here, which has a good display of stuffed wildlife and information about the history of the Pass. There is a public toilet, but no coffee or snacks shop. It is a calm and scenic place with a good rest area and plenty of parking to stop while driving along...

This is my quick goto for a hike. Only 1:45 hour(s) away. A few of the favs; Illecillewaet Glacier (bring your crazy carpet), Glacier Crest, Abbott Ridge (Marion Lake), The Hermit basin, Balu Pass, Mt Sir Donald (a scramble, protection necessary). Great memories of watching "Snow Wars" when I was a kid. A few less services available these days; no gas station and no hotel with the restaurant. And sadly they've had the museum closed for nigh on two years now. Attached are recent pics...

Very scenic drive through the pass just be aware of sudden weather changes and road conditions due to elevation gain. There are a few Avalanche tunnels as well,and remember no gas station between Revelstoke and Golden Parks Canada has a great interpretive center at the summit and nice rest...
