Tuff City Saunas is fantastic!
I booked a 2 hour session online and it was very easy to do so. Immediately after, I received emails with information to answer any questions I may have had. The day of my booking, I received a text message several hours in advance as a reminder, and it also included further information to ensure I was well informed. I knew where to go, where to park, what to bring, and what to expect all well in advance.
Upon arrival, Brad was already getting the fire ready so the sauna was at the perfect temperature and ready to go. He went through everything step by step, showed us where the wood was, how to utilize the fire box, the outdoor shower, the change rooms, the inside of the sauna, the inner shower (which was a gift from heaven at times), what to do with the rocks & water, and reminders to be cautious about steam when pouring water on the rocks, as well as staying in the sauna for too long at a time. He then pointed out options of doing plunges in the ocean, back at the outdoor shower, sitting on the sauna deck or in their chairs, and pointed out the foot wash in case you do go to the ocean and need to clean your feet.
Inside, the sauna was spacious, and although there was only 2 of us, it was clear it was made for 6. It was as hot or cool as we wanted it to be between the fire, making steam, opening vents, or opening the door if you need to quickly let in a cool ocean breeze. I reloaded the firebox only twice in two hours, and it was easy, quick and safe with the instruction and tools they provide. The smell of cedar and a light scent of wood burning during my sauna experience made the booking thoroughly enjoyable and 100% West Coast.
This was a perfect addition to my trip and I will definitely be back. I would recommend Tuff City Saunas to anyone coming to Tofino -...
Read moreI had a great experience at Tuff Saunas. It was during the power outage that occurred after the Cyclone Bomb (who comes up with these names). I wasn't sure if they would be open, but they were. we had great communication by text. For lighting they were using a generator, and more than that it doesn't require power. It is a unique experience to see how the heat is provided from a wood stove at the back of the sauna. Brad was so knowledgeable in explaining how it all worked. We had the choice of fueling it our selves, or he would do it. We chose for him to do it, and it was kept very hot. We timed it every 15 minutes with the sand timer to go outside and sit on the small bench that is built into the barrel. There was cold water available as well to cool down with. Brad went out of his way to make sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed, but was not hanging around. We never felt like he was intruding. What an amazing experience to be right beside the wild ocean hearing the waves and be so warm inside a sauna. There were only 2 of us, but it fits 6, I would say 4...
Read moreApril 2025 Back again and to the Tin-Wis location for the first time. This place will knock your socks off, which is good, because you don't want to wear socks in a sauna. It's a trillion-dollar view, and a million-dollar set up, right at the edge of the beach. Beautiful, restorative, enchanting, and so well run. Thank you, Jordan, for a phenomenal experience, once again. I'll be back every time I visit Tofino. -- Carrie Mac
February 2024 My two teens and I celebrated my birthday here, and we all had a lovely time. The staff was very helpful, and showed us around when we first got there. Some nice touches: a cold shower inside the sauna as well as the one outside, steps away from the spectacular and wild west coast beach, private changing area, essential oils for the steam, and the added bonus of being able to stoke the fire yourself. I would strongly, strongly, very much recommend bringing sandals or flip-flops in the winter ... we went down to the beach to cool off several times and froze our feet, never mind roughing them up on the...
