Vancouver is consistently named as one of the top five worldwide cities for livability and quality of life,10[12] and the Economist Intelligence Unit acknowledged it as the first city ranked among the top ten of the world's most well-living cities[13] for ten consecutive years.[12] However, Vancouver also ranks as the most expensive city to live in Canada[14] and as the fourth-most expensive housing market globally.[15] In 2011, the city planned to become the greenest city in the world by 2020. Vancouverism is the city's urban planning design philosophy.

Indigenous settlement of Vancouver began an estimated 8,000 to 10,000 years ago, and the city is on the traditional and unceded territories of the Squamish, Musqueam, and Tsleil-Waututh (Burrard) peoples. The beginnings of the modern city, which was originally named Gastown, grew around the site of a makeshift tavern on the western edges of Hastings Mill that was built on July 1, 1867 and owned by proprietor Gassy Jack. The original site is marked by the Gastown steam clock. Gastown then formally registered as a townsite dubbed Granville, Burrard Inlet. The city was renamed "Vancouver" in 1886, through a deal with the Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR). The Canadian Pacific transcontinental railway was extended to the city by 1887. The city's large natural seaport on the Pacific Ocean became a vital link in the trade between Asia-Pacific, East Asia, Europe,...

We visited Victoria, south of Victoria Island. This place is amazing. I wish I could have spent 2 or more days there. We left our rental car in Tsawwassen harbour in the long term parking lot. The boats from this harbour takes you either to North of Vancouver Island, where you'll arrive in Nanaimo, or you can go South to Swartz Bay. Once you arrive in Swartz Bay, there are buses going to Downtown Victoria which is located 35 km from the harbour. The daily pass on the bus costs 5 CAD, and the boat ride per person (without vehicle) was 18 CAD. The parking where we left our car in Tsawwassen cost 17.00 CAD for a 24 hour period. You can renew the parking using Paybyphone app, or via website. The boat takes about 1 hour and a half to reach Swartz Bay. It's a nice and pleasant ride, and the boat is huge. They have small coffee shops inside the boat and many restrooms as well. Just as a reminder. If you are going to Nanaimo, maybe it's better to use the other harbour situated on North Vancouver (Horseshoe bay). They also have boats leaving to Swartz Bay. I recommend checking Google Maps to calculate the distance from your hotel to...
