I attended my first Jokers Canada comedy show this weekend, and it was an absolute blast! A colleague recommended it, so I checked out the Coquitlam performance at the Evergreen Cultural Center on Friday—and wow, what a fun experience. The concept is fantastic, and the performers were incredibly talented. I had such a great time that when I learned there was another show the following night in Port Coquitlam, I couldn't resist. I reached out to Jokers Canada, and not only did they confirm that each show is completely different (no repeated jokes from one night to the next!), but they were also kind enough to offer me a discount as a thank you for attending again.
This time, I took my family to the Terry Fox Theatre, and once again, we had a wonderful time. It felt amazing to laugh out loud for two nights in a row! On Friday, Ola Dada was my favorite performer, while Alex Carr hosted with great energy. We also saw Byron Bertram, Jacob Samuel, and Marlene Swidzinski, who were all fantastic. On Saturday, the lineup featured another great emcee, Chris Griffin, and stand-up comedians Myles Anderson, Yumi Nagashima (our favorite that night), Charlie Demers as the headliner, and Cassidy Furman (though her set was a bit too short). DJ Jeremy Baker kept the energy up, spinning tunes between acts.
The only downside I noticed was the lack of a bar at the Terry Fox Theatre and the long lines before the show. In contrast, the Evergreen Cultural Center allowed you to grab drinks both before and during the performance, which made for a fuller experience.
Anyway, if your town is lucky enough to get one of those Jokers Canada nights, just go - I highly recommend it for anyone who needs a good...
Read moreWe have been to four Jokers Canada shows in just six months, and every time has been an absolute blast! The lineup is always great, the energy is high, and things have noticeably improved with better communication, social media announcements on who will actually perform, and they are on time.
Our favorite venue in the Tri Cities so far has been the Evergreen Cultural Centre, where you can grab a couple of drinks and make it a full Saturday night out. That said, the Inlet Theatre shows are also a fantastic time and we love that we can simply walk there.
The couple of small suggestions I would recommend to enhance the experience: ✔️ Displaying the performers’ names on the screen while they are on stage. Since there’s already a screen showing Jokers Canada’s social media channels, it would be easy to add names. It would also help when trying to remember and follow comedians—like Ola (who moved from Nigeria to Fort McMurray and was hilarious, but I can’t recall his full name!). ✔️ Varying audience interaction. It would be great if the organizers or comedians addressed in advance who they will engage with in the front row. It sometimes feels like the same four people get all the attention, when a mix could make things even more fun.
Overall, we LOVED it and will absolutely be back! If you’re looking for a great night of live comedy, don't hesitate and grab a couple of tickets to...
Read moreI went to the Mar 28 show in West Van w a gf. I've been to about 3 JC shows over the past few years and always have a superb time. The talent & organization is top calibre, I don't know how they keep finding so many different great comics!? It was fun to see (newcomer?) Ola Dada whose fresh take on moving to a small town was hilarious. All the comics were spot-on, I'd never seen Benji Rothman before, he was charming & a natural ham. It was a treat to see Ivan Decker join the stage at the end with a batch of new jokes I hadn't heard from him before(Ivan is my fave Canadian comic). Many of the comics even threw in some local West Van humour & digs tailored to the crowd. Thanks for another fabulously funny night out,...
