Gainsbourg review
I recently sat at the bar at Gainsbourg on a half-full Thursday night, only to have the bartender ignore my presence for my entire stay - literally - not a single interaction. A server appeared 10 min after I sat down. My beer glass sat empty for another 10 min before the server reappeared. Meanwhile, I’m watching my server seat tables, clear tables, and chat with the staff. The bartender is leisurely pouring drinks and staring blankly at the POS with a raised index finger. Seemingly frustrated with the pace of things, the bar back steps in occasionally and starts pouring drinks; just not mine.
After about 20 min I’m finally given the opportunity to order another beer and some food. These arrived promptly via runner - it’s not a busy night- but the main is missing namesake ingredients and my server is M.I.A. for 20+ min. I finally got the runner’s attention, and they fixed the dish, but this is not their job.
Staff on this evening were abundant and friendly, but I might as well have been a piece of furniture. With regard to attention offered to paying customers, there was hardly a discernible difference between me and the stool I was sitting on.
If it weren’t for my own work experience in restaurants and the few thin moral fibres I have left, I could have walked out, stiffed the lot of them, and kept both a full wallet and a clean conscience. They certainly wouldn’t have noticed my absence.
The service here is legitimately awful. After thinking about it, there’s only one time I’ve had worse. This is not that, but it comes close. If you can tolerate being ignored for extended periods, without food or drink, you won’t mind at all.
Bottom line: The beer is great, ambience pleasant, soundtrack good, food enjoyable when prepared as described, but the service is abhorrent.
Would I go back? Probably, but only because I typically don’t care much about good or bad service. This was so bad I had to write it down just to prove to myself I...
Read moreMe and my Girlfriend, went to Ottawa to visits the tulips. We decided to go Gatineau cause there's a History museum near. So we go there to this Restaurant/Pub to eat and drink. There's was only one waiter. And we waited to be seated outside for over 5 min. He said there was no place to eat outside but there was 2 empty tables that needed clearing. So we waited a bit more to eat outside. We got ourselves a sticky table. And we both ordered an entre of fried Squid, and it was burned and it had no taste. So we thought "Okay it got burned no big deal." Then we Ordered two Mac&Cheese with some meat. And it was really burned. When he served us the plates I poked it with my fork. And he knew, and he just knew he served us two burned food. We took two bites and it tasted like ash. I was very reluctant, but my girlfriend convinced me to walk out. We told the waiter and he was very sorry and offered us a free beer. We declined and went for McDs. I'm giving this place 2 stars cause he didn't charges our foods and drinks....
Read moreI came here previously for lunch with colleagues, but I won't be returning.
My latest experience was after work and I'm not sure if they were understaffed or they forgot our reservation of 16, but I experienced terrible service.
The waitress assumed our group only wanted drinks and was surprised when I asked to order food 30mins into us sitting down, waited for 1 hour for our food to be served, at which point I had to leave.
I asked for take out before they started bringing food up and the waitress told me that I ordered soup which they don't have containers for (in a very rude tone). Then gave me a container box for my fries and asked me to go to my seat because my food was served. I returned to find I was the only person who hadn't been served. Went back to ask to cancel my order and she pointed accusingly at my box: what's in your takeout box? I showed her there was nothing at which point she realized I had not been served. She then became apologetic and found a container for the soup for takeout.
