Olive Orange — Local services in Montreal

This is an embarrassingly late review to be posting as this was for our wedding back in October of 2022 - but it is needed because the entire Olive Orange team went so far above and beyond in every single way to make our wedding special.

Our previously scheduled caterer ended up falling through ~3 months before our event leaving us to scramble to find a replacement that was available for our dates and had the ability to handle 120 guests. They managed to do so at a very reasonable rate and were especially helpful coordinating with us throughout the quote process while another potential caterer seemed impossible to reach and then finally gave us a quote for a much higher amount.

We also had to plan this wedding remotely as we're not based in Montreal. That meant we were not able to sample any of the food before our actual wedding. My wife and I both being foodies were nervous about this but with no way around it other than booking a last minute flight to Montreal, we went ahead with Olive Orange (and we're so happy we did). Every single dish was exquisite and our guests repeatedly told us how delicious the food was. The presentation was equally impressive. Special attention was also given to the children's meals as they each received a unique dessert (this was reported by one of our guests who was really impressed by this detail).

Additionally, all of the staff were super very kind and attentive and helped support us throughout the evening (forgot to mention but this was a bilingual wedding with both French and English native speakers). A special shout out to Julie who was a master of calm and organization and helped and accommodated us each step of the way (including a last minute surge of an additional ~10 guests only a few weeks before the wedding). Every unique dietary restriction was identified and addressed allowing us to focus on the night itself.

Saturday, May 4 event – beautiful couple, extraordinary venue, completely unsatisfactory catering experience. As members of a large business organization, my husband and I have attended hundreds of catered events over the years, from small, intimate dinner parties to large conferences of 1000+ attendees, and never have I experienced anything like this catering fiasco. The caterer arrived at least an hour late, after some of the guests had already arrived, making them feel obligated to help the hosts set up tables, unwrap food trays and even tend bar throughout the evening. For a party of 70+ guests, the caterer sent only one server, who had to do everything, including carry food, dishes and glasses up 3 flights of stairs from her truck. I saw at least one fine dress ruined because that guest had to clear plates and glasses from crowded tables, and even scrape food scraps off dishes so they could more easily be stacked by the caterer at the end of the evening. I was appalled that, as the party was coming to a close, many of the guests had to help carry everything back down all those flights of stairs to the truck, in semi-formal attire, and many of them in their 60s (I was one of those), because it was just too much work for the one employee of Olive Orange. Now I understand that the caterer is attempting to charge this young couple extra for overtime – dear people at Olive Orange, surely you have mistaken the words "extra charge" for "REFUND", or at least "DEEP DISCOUNT" for poor...

I reached out to many caterers regarding our wedding needs. Olive Orange was one of the few that asked us many questions first and got to know our needs/preferences (instead of just sending standard, boring, wedding menus).

Food was really important to us and they delivered! Adam and his team prepared several different food stations for us to try at our tasting. Lucie responded prompted to all my (many) emails through the months. They were extremely accommodating and great to work with, they were also very helpful when I wanted to add items last minute.

On the day of, the food was amazing, just as our tasting. The chef was very chatty and friendly and the guests enjoyed his humor. The bartender, Pascal, was fantastic and so fun! People loved the shots and hot drinks he prepared (Grog and Mulled Wine). Many of our guests told us it was the best wedding food they've ever had. We had some non-traditional food (spaetzle, schnitzel & flammkuchen) and it was great! Even a simple dessert of Rice Krispie squares were...
