Wanted to start playing magic. Tarkir release party was on my b-day and you guys had an event and spots left. Was also my bday, just moved to the area thought I'd go out and make friends. BUT you guys told me "no you can't sign up, cuz you don't know how to play" .... So how is one supposed to get into the game??? Either way the staff AND PLAYERS at North bay games and hobbies, had NO PROBLEM helping me out and showing me the ropes at the exact same type of release party?.... It still blows my mind the way you guys treated me on the phone. Basically saying I'm too stupid to learn a card game... April 5th. I should have recorded the conversation and sent it to wotc. I'm sure they'd love to hear you guys turn away people that want to get into MTG and calling them stupid.
Edit - they wanted me to reach out and explain what has happened, so I did. And they basically said I'm making this up cuz apparently their manager has been working for them for 3 years and "he's the best" and "he would never do that." I go for the Magic events (casual commander player who likes the new set release events) and fair product pricing. Everywhere else is easily trying to use their customers for easy profit. Outpost feels more like they want you to join the community more than wanting you to make them rich.
The staff Ive worked with so far are very open and friendly!
Prize support for the MTG events so far are a little bleak, but those kinds of things come with time and support! If you’re looking for a venue that’s modestly casual, friendly and not as competitive (at least in my five or so experiences as of writing this), this is a fine place.
Major downside I’ll give them as a studied business person: • the location is a bit out of the way • and the store could use a couple smaller tables and more shopping space— I will note though, is that these things come with time and success! As well as the store itself is comfortable!

Read moreBest hobby store I've experienced in the Bay yet. Very knowledgeable staff and very open to newcomers and learners alike. I've now learned to play multiple new games through their very supportive community including MTG and various RPGs.
If you're looking for reacreational social outings or competitive gaming this is the place. The atmosphere in the gaming room really sets a good tone too!
Thanks Outpost and we'll see you...
