I recently moved to this neighborhood and started visiting this store as it is right down the street from me.
A few weeks ago I bought a Dreamcast console, controller, VMU, and a copy of Tokyo Extreme Racer 2 for around 200 dollars maybe just under. When I got around to trying the console and game out some time later (I go through stints of gaming and not gaming) I discovered my car was behaving very weird, it was like I could not accelerate with the triggers. I later narrowed the problem down to the triggers themselves not working properly. The analog function did not work correctly and in menus maybe 1 to sometimes 5 presses out of 10 wouldnt function.
I went into the store today and asked if I could exchange the controller only to find out it had been past the 30 day warranty, which I understand. But im more upset about the fact that the staff member I dealt with was basically accusatory in his tone saying that all of what they sell has been tested and that since its past 30 days "he does not know what has happened to it". I told him that it is an odd issue and would be easy to miss but the fact that he immediately assumed that I was trying to scam him, after spending 200 dollars at the store, just to get a free dreamcast controller is pretty ridiculous and insulting. Also maybe they could have offered to test the controller right there on whatever test rig they have? I wanted to come in sooner but the stores hours and my work schedule do not align very well. I think most places would have at least offered me a discount on another controller, store credit, or at least an apology instead of being looked down on and assumed to be a scam artist, or at least maybe cared enough to actually find a way to test it and examine the problem, I would have brought my own console in really if only to help demonstrate that this is perhaps a problem they need to look out for in the future on used dreamcasts. I even asked them how much another controller would be as I just would like to be able to play the game properly but they had none in stock. This was my fourth or fifth trip to the store, and ive spent around a minimum of 50 dollars every visit, so immediately being assumed to be someone coming up with a story just to try to swindle a free dreamcast controller isn't the sort of thing that makes you want to come back.
Apart from this in general I like the store, prices tend to be on the higher side, but they have a pretty good selection of games and other stuff like toys and memorabilia and some of it is unusual and rare. Theres been a few things ive been eyeing that I probably could not find anywhere else and I dont mind paying on the higher side for unique things I cant find elsewhere and supporting a local independent store, but now im not so sure.
Overall an OK store, and probably the only one of its kind in the area but I would suggest immediately going over anything you buy there as apparently the testing process is not 100% thorough but they seem to feel it is despite the fact these kind of issues are always going to come up on things sold second hand and you will not be given any leeway past the 30 day period, even on a 200 dollar purchase. The staff has been polite and helpful for the most part on my other visits and I like the store for the most part but this experience was...
Read moreI traded in a little booklet of shiny and first edition pokemon cards here a while ago, for 2 games priced at 80 where I had to pay an extra 10 in cash.
After research I realized how much my cards from my childhood were actually worth and I'm kicking myself so hard for not doing more research and especially going here with whom I assume is the owner, as he said he was, and him not at least offering me a decent price as I had no idea how much my cards were worth.
I just want to warn anyone that thinks trading in cards for games is a good idea here. I will admit I should have been smarter with my decision but I never thought I get gyped so hard and taken advantage of so badly.
A game store, that I would assume knows it's stuff because I was never given a estimated price, he just kept asking me what I would want for it, that should of been my first red flag.
I'm still salty about it, I just hope people read this to be careful if they're unknowledgeable and think they can depend on the trust of this business to be fair.
Edit to reply: I stand by my original review. I don't think it was fair as they were not given an estimate from shop but was left up to me but ignorance is bliss. Doesn't take away the feeling of being taken advantage of. Expensive lesson learned. Do your research and...
Read moreFairly good selection of titles and systems but they get their prices of of the first eBay listing they see, half of the items aren't even priced and the ones that are are on average at least %20 above the average current market price
Example is starfox adventures players choice was $80 when it's current average msrp is about $30-$45
Edited update after their reply below: updated my rating as well as they basically are saying "yeah that's not us" when they're the only game store in the area since the one in the actual mall shutdown.
They just replied to my review, your employee told me starfox adventures was $80 after going "uuhh" then fiddled on eBay of all things for a moment then said "90 for the black label and 80 for the other one"
Your not even in the mall your on a side road strip off of the main road that takes 2 minutes to drive around to get to, your a 200sqft building beside a couple small restaurants such as a Carribean restaurant.
Also the mall store in central city mall? Not there anymore it's a Fido now your the only game store in this section of the city without going across the river or to Eb games. Your store said games r us above the door...
Not my fault your employee gave me a listing you disagree with but don't pass my review off for another place that...
