Tynehead is a large diverse park that has two sections separated by a through road on 168th Street. There are two main parking area which one is at the end of 168 Street between the two sections. The other is along 96 Avenue at 172 Street. The second lot is smaller and ideally for access to the paved section of the park.
The west section has various networks of gravel trails throughout the park and crosses creeks hosting a fish hatchery and spawning beds. A habitat for wild salmon. The off leash dog park is located right at this parking lot. There are washrooms, water fountain, picnic tables, trash / recycle bins. A lot of the trail network is shaded by the tall trees. This side is ideal for running, walking, hiking, biking, learning about the ecosystem, watching the salmon run (seasonal), picnic, barbecue, dog walking, and exploring nature. There is also a highway overpass which provides access from Fraser Heights located on the other side of Trans Canada Highway (Hwy 1). The overpass is a pedestrian crossing bridge which is lit up at night and cycles through different colors.
The east section at 172nd Street has a toilet, trash / recycle bins, two benches, and three picnic tables. The paved section is about 4km all the way around and is ideal for walking, strollers, rollerblading, skateboarding, cycling, running, and various other activities that require pavement. Paved path is wide and completely open to the sky, so wear sunscreen on a sunny day. At the Eastern most end of the park is a historic barn and tall grass field, home to various wildlife. There are also various dirt trails inside the paved area.
Dogs are permitted all over this park, but must be leashed at all times.
There are trash bins all along the paved path, so please keep the park clean.

Read moreBeautiful park, great for dogs & their owners. Spent a couple hours relaxing here with our own dog yesterday. Was only our second visit to the park & was very much looking forward to it.
Unfortunately, it seems to be a hotspot for having your car broken into. Parked in the lot off of 161 & 102 on Mother's Day 2016. Our glass was completely smashed in & bag/all cards & ID stolen, despite the fact that it was hidden. I'm guessing somebody was watching from another vehicle or the bushes because they knew exactly which window to obliterate to easily grab my bag.
As I was standing there cursing the skeezy losers who did this & attempting to call ICBC (no cell signal & no emergency call stations put in by our clueless mayor), an older couple who I met earlier in the park walked up & said their car had also been broken into in the exact same parking lot earlier this year. I've also talked to several more people since then who have had the same unfortunate experience in the exact same parking lot at Tynehead. So this must be something the local RCMP & Linda Herp-ner are well aware of, yet not one security camera to be had in the area. FYI don't bother calling the RCMP if your car is broken into, because they can't be bothered to show up.
Will not be returning to Tynehead & moving out of the ghetto, which Slurrey has become. The past 2 mayor's have turned this city into a cheap rubbish pile full of shiny, new, substandard condos & houses anyways. Just a matter of time before the lawsuits against the city & contractors...
Read moreFantastic park in Surrey. This area used to be farms and as they have become available for sale, the GVRD (Greater Vancouver Regional District) has been buying them up to create this park. The land is being put back into more of a 'natural' state with local plantings.
The east side has a wide paved path suitable for bikes, strollers, roller blades, runners, walkers, .... People are requested to stay on the path and not go into the woods or natural meadows.
The west side has more 'natural' trails and a specified off-leash dog area. Bikes are not permitted in the west side. There are many trails through the woods and there is always something different around each corner. The Stump Trail is a must see area. There is also a Salmon Hatchery on the south side of the western part of the park, look for the parking off of 96th Ave, west of 168th Street.
There are geocaches, munzees and Ingress portals in the east and west side of the park.
For the East side, parking is available on the north side of 96th Ave. There are washrooms at the parking area.
For the West side, parking is available in 3 places - off of 161st Street south of 102 Ave, the north end of 168th Street (168th street is basically the middle of the park), and off of 96th Ave west of 168th Street at the...
