The Welland International Flatwater Centre (WIFC) is a premier flatwater facility in the heart of Niagara. It is set on 411 acres of parkland and 272 acres of water and combines international-standard competitive watersports facilities with recreational and social opportunities.
This is an excellent place to engage in boating, kayaking, swimming, and fishing, both recreational and competitive. The entire premises is very up-to-date and modern, very well maintained and first class. There are walking trails as well which allow one to enjoy the ambience. Great for walks with your dog, cycling, etc. Very well kept. Washrooms on site at The Flatwater Center, that are open except in winter. You can walk past The Flatwater Center and continue to the other side which will take you back to the parking lot via walking along the bridge to the lights.
A very large and a smaller leash free zone is available for dogs. Don’t forget a toy or ball for your pup. Well kept and safe. Open year round.
The Canal is always fun for your pup to cool off on a very hot day.

Read moreThe WIFC is a good safe place to go open water swimming. There are also paved trails on either sides for running or cycling. There isn't much of a current so it's quite easy to navigate swimming, kayaking or paddleboarding here.
There are washrooms available however there isn't any showers available to rinse off. I'm not sure if this is the case during triathlon events though.
Keep in mind that the location may be closed off for events but these typically run early in the morning until early afternoon.
