We recently had our Wedding Social at the Downs on the main floor and it was INCREDIBLE. What a beautiful space and accommodating staff. Abbi and Manley were amazing to deal with right from the beginning. We had a tour of the space and could envision everything happening right then and when it came time to the actual social, everything went off without a hitch. I didn't have to worry about anything. They set everything up for you with nice table clothes, high and low tables and a great bar set up too! We just had to load in our prizes and silent auction stuff, set up and be done! We even got in early to set up, HUGE TIME SAVER! On the night of, we had a private room to store our personal belongings and Manley was there every hour or more to do cash drops as needed and to make sure everything was running smoothly. The food was great and we had left overs for people to have seconds. Clean up was a breeze, anything we brought we took and anything we didn't want they cleaned up and threw out for us. All in all it was a huge success for us and I would HIGHLY recommend using The Downs...
Read moreThe experience of going to 'The Track' is a five star experience that everyone should try at least once. It's exciting, simple to participate in, thrilling when you win (even if it is only a dollar) and agonizing when you lose. Assiniboina Downs is a great track with a little something for everyone. You can have a great evening out for only a few dollars (depending how lucky or disciplined you are) there are plenty of places to sit and watch the races, visit the stables, play some VLTs, have dinner and a drink or opt for some snack food on the main concourse level. The restaurant is good, but nothing spectacular. The buffet is good, maybe not 50.00 good, but it's nice to have a view of the races, your own personal mobile race window teller (person you make bets with comes to your table), and good variety of eats all evening. Be sure to plan and book the dining room at least a week in advance. The track has a lot of special memories with my dad that we will continue to come regularly...
Read moreWhat a great way to celebrate Canada Day together with what looked thousands of Winnipegers and families from all walks of life. Might have need a bit less windy and chilly but wow were the fireworks worth the wait. I've been to fireworks around the US and have to say they were the best I have seen in a very long time. Well done;. I would have given a 5 star but for two points. First on exiting after the fireworks I was given pause by how small the exit gate to the parking was. It's a spot perfect for pushing, shoving or worse if the crowd surges. Second, perhaps they were way more popular than expected, but the traffic situation leaving was a disaster. Up to an hour for some folks to get out of the parking lot. I have already heard from friends that they had a really great night but won't be back because of the traffic mess. That would be sad if that happens. Hopefully a new plan can be put in place to make leavingi work smoothly and quickly for next year. ...
