I recently traveled from Lijiang to Kunming by train, and overall, the experience was a mix of comfort and challenge. Lijiang Railway Station itself is clean, well-organized, and surprisingly comfortable. The waiting area was spacious, and the facilities—including restrooms—were well maintained, which made the pre-boarding experience pleasant.
However, the train ride itself was less enjoyable. Despite being a high-speed service, the air-conditioning was noticeably weak throughout the 4-hour journey. The cabin felt warm and stuffy, which made it hard to relax. I hope the railway company improves the cooling system, especially for long-distance routes like this one.
Still, the scenic views along the way were beautiful, and the station staff were helpful. With a few upgrades to onboard comfort, this route could be a great option for travelers...

For foreigners you need your passport and will be manually scanned thru, but locals breeze past very fast with their autogate systems. Really like an airport. But traffic control is a big problem. Read moreThis is one amazing train station...... Before you enter you have to go through security. Thus includes showing your passport or I'd card which is entered into there computers. Then all your baggage is checked and that's just to sit and wait for your train..... But spotless plenty of food options and shops along with restroom. It's a no smoking building with no smoke rooms... Amazing...
