Iconic bayfront spot with the best views and vibes Happy Harbour is one of my favorite spots in Shenzhen! It’s home to the Glory Ferris Wheel, which has quickly become an icon of the city. Whether you ride it or just admire it from below, it adds such a striking visual against the skyline — especially stunning at sunset or when it lights up at night.

The whole area is beautifully developed, with a modern mall filled with great dining options, cafes, and shopping — perfect for taking a break or spending a relaxed afternoon. But what really stands out is the open green space by the bay — it’s so well-manicured and spacious, ideal for walking, jogging, or simply sitting and enjoying the sea breeze.

It’s clean, vibrant, and really gives off that modern yet laid-back lifestyle vibe. Whether you’re here to take photos, grab food, or just breathe in the ocean air, Happy Harbour is absolutely...

Relatively new area and attraction in Shenzhen some 15 stops away on subway from Futian CBD area. It has a combination of a large waterfront mall with shops and restaurants, many with outdoor seatings, gardens, boardwalks, and arty sculptures. The centre piece was undoubtedly the ferris wheel, the size of that of London Eye. However, the surrounding area was relatively flat and uninteresting, so there was not much to see from the wheel. But for the low ticket price for seniors, it was a nice respite from the heat to take a ride on the wheel. The last 3 photos of spiralling shelves were from an interesting bookshop in the mall, Chung Books, a very photogenic place unlike any...

Originally we wanted to see the 鍾書閣 bookstore with its cool spiral stacks, but we got there and realised that it was just a gimmick - only the lower shelves of the spirals are lined with real books. It was also drawing a huge photo taking crowd there who didn’t really care about the books. However there were great establishments by the seaside, the whole area was very pleasant to walk and particularly beautiful and photogenic at night. Nice sea breezes as well. We also found a very nice and cheap restaurant for picked veggie fish, so overall it was a great experience there. A bit out of the way in west Shenzhen and recommend calling a can...
