A bit of an odd experience. I would say "observatory" is a bit misleading as you lay in a field looking at the starts and get to look in two telescopes twice during the whole experience. The explanation in Spanish was very detailed and engaging, however as an English speaking group we had to wait until the 45min explanation in Spanish was over before we got a quick 10-15min rushed explanation at the end. I think they would be better off having a time for Spanish groups and a separate time for English groups. I really liked Guillermo, he seemed to really be passionate about astrology. Another thing that made me a bit uncomfortable was it seemed to be that payment really depended on who you are. There were very obvious deals being made between the guy who collects the cash and some local guides but if you were alone there was no negotiating. Considering the cost of entry is only 10,000, I feel like we got what we paid for but it wasn't what we...
Read moreTemper your expectations if you don't speak Spanish. There's a 45 minute Spanish presentation followed by a 10 minute English run down. Which was nice as it filled me in on things I missed because my Spanish is pretty basic. While you spend most of the time just looking up at the stars while Astrophysicist Guillermo talks, we did get to look into a telescope at a star 2.7 light years away. Then at the end we got to look at a nebula. He also gives out his phone number where you can message him on WhatsApp and he sends beautiful photos taken that night of the sky and presentation. This is a must do one night in Villa Vieja. This is a very...
Read moreInteresting experience! Although the clouds and full moon meant we couldn't rally see stars it was still cool. Guillermo was very knowledgeable and friendly and went between Spanish and English every few minutes so everyone in the group was happy. He took pics of the moon from the telescope for us and will send us more later apparently. The only issue I had is I walked from town and Google maps bought me to a section of wall/ gate that was way further than the entrance so maybe if this could be improved it would be easier for people to find in the dark. If I'd known about the trek up I'd have gotten a tuktuk but that's my...
