Pollo Surf School — Local services in Puntarenas Province

My family traveled to the Osa peninsula for a little over 2 weeks. We grew up on the Gulf of Mexico, so although familiar with the ocean, we all had 0 surfing experience. I am an old mom to 8 and 10 year old girls, All three of us got up on our first try, much thanks to our instructors. We tried one lesson to see how it went and ended up getting 2 more lessons for the kids and one more for my husband and I. Pollo is easily one of the best instructors that I have ever encountered. He was great with kids. He was great with adults. He would switch back seamlessly between Spanish and English to address the entire group. We started on the beach until he felt that you had the muscle memory to get in the water. He has as simple technique to teach the starter steps to getting up. As we got better his lessons adjusted to teach more skills, such as turning and speeding up. Its also a blast!! Pollo and his instructors love what they do and want you to love it too. This is the 3rd surf lesson I've taken and the first one where I was actually able to get up and ride a wave. The lesson started on the beach where Pollo and his teachers did a great job getting us prepared for learning how to surf. He taught us safety in moving through the water and staying clear of other surfers. We then had time on the beach to learn the basics of surfing and standing up. There were 9 of us and 3 instructors, so once we were in the water we all had plenty of opportunities to catch waves and the instructors were watching us and giving us tips on why we weren't catching the wave or what we could do to better ride them.
