We just moved in so this is what I would call a first impressions, new user experiene.
FIRST: We did everything in a timely manner as requested by both agents, owner and administration. BUT when i show up with our cars to get stickers to allow our cars in we find out that nothing has been done and we had to start registering then even though I turned in the paper work that had all the requested info.
SECOND: Administration seems to be working only one day a week and does not respond well to email. I called once prior and got hung up on or told just disconnected but I did not receive a call back either.
THIRD: We moved in on a weekend but since we were not completely registered we were not supposed to move in furniture. Luckily we moved into a prefurnished apartment so only really needed to move clothes, food and other needed items. DEPSITE THIS - WE received a call from the guards being told we were being reported to administration for not having the proper approvals.
FOURTH: The in general approval process. There is a web application used for reserving the pool, gym (told still closed even though open at the other Avolon we just moved from. The app is very cumbersome and not very useful. My son has a birthday coming up and we wanted to reserve a spot (if open due to covid) but could not even figure out how to do it and there is no support number to call to get help. I can understand some covid issues causing extra issues but as a 30 year IT veteran it just appears to be a badly written and designed application.
5TH: Even though my wife was simply bringing her cousin in for a visit we needed permission - i can appreciate good security but initial "feeling" is that we are moving into a "pretty prison"
The place itself seems wonderful and we are truly hoping that we will quickly move past this transition phase and come to enjoy living here but our initial engagement has been somewhat of a mini nightmare.
I do a lot of Google reviews: I will update this review in a couple months hopefully with a much better experience to share.
6/25/20 Update Pretty good Nieghbors - friendly and respectfull Good place if you own dogs - plenty of room nice little park too. Quite - over all pretty happy here
I can't upgrade the stars though yet if at all, I understand COVID may make some things more difficult in some areas but from what I have gathered from other residents already is that adminitration in general needs a lot of rework. There is an applcation you need to run from your PC or Phone to reserve space for the Gym or Pool. App actually does a ton more ...... informs you of decsions made my tenants etc...... just not real functional. Last night, it stopped letting me choose a date on both plaforms. I emailed the issue with screenshots of the issue into adminitration as you cannot from the applicaiton and while "This time" I did get a response fairly quickly - they were completely clueless to the issue. I sent in 2 more screen shots from both platfroms with more explanations and hope the situation gets fixed.
Pobably the most Fixed feelings review I have ever written on Google becasue I really like the place and can see the potential but the most basic work issues seem to be too hard grasp at the moment for the people in charge.....which seems to start at the very top.
1 hour later: I don't like ot leave names in reviews but I was just contacted by a gentleman in Administration and while the situation is not resovled he did his best to help and escalate the problem to their...
Read moreSubject: Formal Complaint – Racial Harassment and Psychological Distress Caused by U.S. Citizen in Costa Rica (Mr. Alan Harold)
Dear American Citizens Services,
I am a 100% disabled U.S. Army veteran and an American citizen currently residing in Costa Rica. I am writing to file a formal complaint against Mr. Alan Harold, a fellow American citizen and landlord residing in Costa Rica, for racial harassment, fraudulent conduct, and psychological harm.
Mr. Harold is the owner of a fully furnished apartment at Avalon Country Club in Santa Ana, Costa Rica, where I was recently a tenant. During my time there, I endured repeated and racially charged harassment from Mr. Harold. He frequently made hostile comments directed at my skin color, referring to me as “Black” in an aggressive, derogatory tone. He also repeatedly referenced “woke culture” in a taunting and confrontational manner — creating an environment of tension, intimidation, and racial targeting.
He further falsely claimed his father was a General in the 101st Airborne Division, using that lie to attempt to assert dominance and legitimacy over me. After I informed Mr. Harold of my decision to vacate the apartment due to his treatment, he retaliated by manufacturing a legal bluff through what appeared to be a fake attorney, in order to unlawfully keep my deposit.
As a decorated U.S. Army combat veteran who also served as a private security contractor protecting U.S. diplomats overseas, I have operated in some of the most volatile regions of the world — and I was still disturbed by the treatment I endured in a civilian residence from another U.S. citizen abroad.
This situation has taken a serious toll on my mental and emotional health. I began suffering from nightmares, and missed multiple nights of sleep due to the stress and psychological pressure caused by this harassment. It is unacceptable that any U.S. citizen, let alone a disabled veteran, should have to endure racial hostility from a fellow American abroad.
I am respectfully requesting the following:
That this complaint be officially recorded and reviewed by the U.S. State Department.
That Mr. Alan Harold be investigated for his treatment of American citizens living abroad.
That the Avalon Country Club property and this specific landlord be flagged as potentially harmful to American tenants in Costa Rica.
That this matter be elevated if necessary to ensure the safety, dignity, and legal rights of U.S. citizens residing internationally. He also failed to return my deposit. So it's a total loss of $1800. I'm on a fixed income.
I am available for additional details, and I can provide names, timelines, and documentation if...
Read moreBeautiful sunsets but that’s about it. Barking dogs, noise from wind chimes ( loud noise) management that doesn’t do anything, residents can make threats and if they are locals and friends with the administrators it’s ok. I would stay away. Lost 1200$ in deposits at this place and was so happy to leave. There are many places that are...
