Medvedgrad Castle is an amazing place full of history located in the mountains at the north of Zagreb, easily accesible after a 1-hour walk from the penultimate stop of 128 bus line, that departs from Crnomerec, or if you are a bit lazy, bus line 140 leaves you at stop Put za Medvedgrad, 15 minutes away from the place... Castle was build about 8 centuries ago with defensive purposes, but the most known story is the one of Crna Kraljica, the "Black Queen", a historic character modified by black legends, supposedly very cruel... Castle is closed right now due to maintenance works, but in any case, re-opening will take place presumably this year. A Events of various classes were held at the castle in former years. A modern monument dedicated to those fallen in the Independence War, Oltar Domovine, is located behind the observation tower of the castle. In a clear day, you can get a wonderful view of Zagreb and the surrounding mountains. Read moreOltar hrvatske domovine izgrađen je u sklopu projekta "Obnova Medvedgrada u čast hrvatske slobode", koji je za svoga posjeta Medvedgradu 1992. inicirao predsjednik Republike Hrvatske dr. Franjo Tuđman. Oblikovanje Memorijalnog obilježja u čast hrvatske Slobode u sklopu je cjeline posla na burgu, ali je zaseban autorski posao, koji je povjeren kiparu Kuzmi Kovačiću, čiji je prijedlog, na pozivnom natječaju (1993) odabran za realizaciju. Kamen je osnovni materijal iz kojeg je izgrađen spomenik u klesarskoj radionici Božidara Radovana od 15. siječnja do 30. travnja 1994. Odabrano je deset vrsta kamena (simbolički iz svih hrvatskih krajeva). U realizaciji spomenika sudjelovali su i drugi suradnici, svatko prema svojoj struci. Pino Signoretto, vlasnik i majstor ljevač stakla u Muranu kraj Venecije, lijevao je, zajedno s kiparom Kovačićem, velike staklene kocke ili "ploče mora".
