Up until the end of the 1980's the roads were very difficult and getting out of there was a concern after a snow. At one time there was a small bar that burned down, not far from a trout farm made from a series of above ground swimming pools. There were no signs anywhere as to how to get there. You had to be invited by someone who knew the routes (2) at that time. The trolling for rainbow trout was great and brought friends together from not just Ecuador but also from Germany, the Soviet Union and the USA.
