La Grande Maison Monbazillac — Local services in Bergerac

La Grande Maison was the local wine that made our trip to Monbazillac perfect. On our first day, they were selling their delicious wines at the Issigeac farmers market, and we enjoyed them at dinner that night with our family. On our last day, the family was gathering again, so we went to the winery, tasted the full range, and bought a few bottles again. The tasting was fabulous, and the setting, with an 800-year-old chateau set among the vines, was amazing. Wonderful, tiny family-run winery specializing in Monbazillac wines. We have been to the large Chateau Monbazillac previously, but we wanted a smaller more intimate experience. We called ahead, because it is harvest season (early October), and the winemaker’s wife/tasting room manager agreed on a time. She is charming, and speaks very good English. Good people drink good wine! A wonderful place that you want to return to, and the view of the castle adds magic to it. Excellent wine, you can taste each of the wines, and wonderful, attentive winery owners who speak three languages will tell you about the taste, features and manufacturing techniques.
