Unforgettable Experience with Ophorus and our Incredible Guide Thierry!
Our day with Ophorus Day Trips and Wine Tours in Alsace was nothing short of exceptional. Weâve experienced many guided tours through various travel companies over the years, but Thierryâour guide on this journeyâwas, by far, the best weâve ever had. His enthusiasm for people, culture, and history radiated through every moment, and his warm personality made us feel as though we were exploring with a lifelong friend. We already miss him and the incredible memories we created together.
Booking through Ophorus was seamless, and the meeting point was easy to find. The van was comfortable, air-conditioned (a must on warmer days!) and ideal for the small-group setting that we loveâit created a more intimate atmosphere and allowed us to connect with fellow travelers along the way.
Thierry brought each stop to life with rich stories and insights, offering us a deeper understanding of the regionâs culture and past. A highlight was visiting the prestigious Dopff wine estate, where we sampled some of the finest Alsatian wines. Unless youâre already a wine connoisseur, you wonât believe the quality until you taste it straight from the source. There were plenty of opportunities to purchase bottles to enjoy on your trip or to take home (or even ship, if needed).
We were also happy with the included castle tour of Haut Koenigsbourg which offered fascinating history and a chance to explore this gem of the region.
The picturesque villages of Eguisheim, Riquewihr, and Kaysersberg were straight out of a storybook. Learning the blend of French and German influences in these towns added so much depth to our visit. We especially enjoyed our lunch in Riquewihr and even purchased art directly from a local artistâa memory weâll always treasure.
We were a family of 3 traveling together â My 83 years young Father, my young adult daughter and myself âand this tour created priceless moments for all three generations. We will absolutely book with Ophorus again and will request Thierry by name if possible. His passion and expertise elevated the entire experience, and we canât recommend this tour highly enough.
Merci, Ophorus and Thierry, for memories we will...
Read moreJerĂłme was an amazing guide! He had a wealth of knowledge about the Alsace region history and about the wine. We went to 3 wineries, and ended up having about 25 tastings! We also got some time to walk around Kaysersberg where we split off from the group to grab our own lunch and explore the town for 1.5hrs. We had plenty of time to eat and then hiked up to a castle with amazing views of the charming city! đ From there, we were able to visit Eguisheim for about 30 mins before our next tasting. JerĂłme led us through an impromptu walking tour and we learned so much about this little village! We had planned to visit Eguisheim on our own the following day, but I am so happy that we were able to see it with JerĂłme instead! I learned so much that I would not have even noticed if I had gone on my own. Every town has so much history and I love that JerĂłme made a point to share as much as he could with us! Of course the wines were all delicious too! We ended up purchasing 6 bottles and are so excited to bring some authentic Alsatian wine back to the USA to share with our friends and family. When you hear that this region is known for Riesling and muscat, you might think this will be a tasting of dessert wines, but i was pleasantly surprised that the Alsatian wines are the perfect balance of dry and sweet, nothing tasted syrupy, like they do in the USA. These wines were well balanced and had such interesting flavors that Iâm sure will be very hard to find anywhere else! I loved this tour and 100000000% recommend! I feel that it was extremely fairly priced for the experience. Book this tour to majorly enhance your stay in the...
Read moreWe had a wonderful time on our tour! Our multilingual, six-person group was heartily led by Thierry, who led mostly in English but would switch to French briefly for the benefit of a youngster who was traveling with her mom on a school holiday. Thierry was extremely well-versed in the history of the sites on our tour: the castle at Haut Koenigsbourg and the towns of Riquewihr and Eguisheim.
The castle is high on a hill and weather can change quickly, so be sure to have a jacket and an umbrella with you, especially in autumn. Thierry was a guide at the castle for four years, and knew all the ins-and-outs. Near the end of his tour, when he was excited to show us the view from the top, the fog had rolled in, unfortunately!
The stop in Riquewihr is just enough time to find lunch on your own, but for those wishing to do a little souvenir shopping, be aware that lunches tend to linger. We had a lovely wine tasting with a warm host, and ended up with a couple of good bottles to take back with us.
Thierry then took us on a walk of the quaint village of Eguisheim and explained its history as a double-walled layout, its half-timbered housing, its notoriety as the birthplace of an Alsatian pope (Leo IX), and customs such as door decorations.
All in all, a fun one-day tour with the intimacy of a private tour but also the opportunity to meet and spend the day with a few other people from other parts...
