We have visited Porquerolles every year for 25 years and one thing is sure - it is going, and not so slowly, down the tubes. It is dirty and covered with litter and broken down bikes and general rubbish and it is not the tourists who do it but the residents and businesses. It is a dump now. The island also hosts the 'parc national de port Cros' and they have various depots of roadworks equipment and many administrative buildings but I can assure you that in 25 years I have never seen ANY works done by them. The roads and bike tracks are in awful condition and if you take a short tour round their sites you will find their 'workers' repairing bikes and having BBQs - nice work if you can get it! The tourist office hands out maps but knows nothing at all about anything. There is a sort of park with a tourist office so we asked them if there were any organised island walks as in the past. Without even raising her head from her important paperwork - 'no'. We did discover a flyer, printed in colour advertising ONE walk in the past. A flyer for ONE walk? They have too much money frankly but it is not spent on any maintenance of anything. They don't even brush the streets except outside the police station and church entrance. Outside the village, it is like a third world country. In the village of course there are bikes hops, bike shops, bike shops.. and restaurants. They could have nice central square, old style and put all the bike shops and yobbos who run them down by the port but this would involve the mayor in Hyeres doing something and that seems out of the question. Yes, the weather is noce and the beaches are nice but the place is a...
Read morelle de Porquerolles is a gem in the Mediterranean, and Notre Dame Beach is its crown jewel. This beach has been celebrated as the most beautiful in Europe for eight consecutive years, and it’s easy to see why.
The photo captures the essence of Notre Dame Beach perfectly. The foreground is framed by dark, twisted tree branches, giving a sense of the natural and slightly wild environment that surrounds the beach. Beyond these branches, the vibrant turquoise sea stretches out, dotted with boats and swimmers enjoying the clear, inviting waters. The lush green hill in the distance adds to the serene and unspoiled landscape, making it a perfect spot for nature lovers.
The beach itself is known for its pristine, crystal-clear waters and soft, golden sand. The combination of the rich greenery, the well-preserved environment, and the tranquil atmosphere makes it a haven for those looking to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The bright blue sky and good weather conditions, as seen in the photo, further enhance the beach’s appeal.
Whether you’re looking to relax on the sand, swim in the clear waters, or explore the surrounding nature, Notre Dame Beach on Île de Porquerolles offers a little slice of paradise. It’s no wonder it has earned its title as Europe’s most beautiful beach...
Read moreThe boat tour to the island is 72€ for two person. On foot it isn't possible to see a lot of the island. We rented bikes but the bikepaths are more heavy Mountainbike paths. Bike rental was 16€ per bike a day. The island is nice but it is difficult to see everything cause you don't got enough time to get around the island. The Boat arrives at 11 am and leaves at 5 pm. You should be at the pier about 4 pm. If you arrive later you won't get a seat and you need to stand for one hour. And then remember the 72€ bucks you paid. That is just ridiculous. And there are no informations in English. The whole tour they just spoke French so that you couldn't gather any information about the surroundings. In the evening I was and that I went there. By the way... The beaches aren't that nice. There are nicer ones like indie beach which I can...
