Read moreVisited Gulmarg on the 20th of July 2023 My wife & me Gulmarg is 2370 meters above sea level – Gondola (Cable car) ride. I climbed to the higher snowcapped peaks & my guide took several photos.
Long ride to the base camp; with beautiful pine trees naturally decorating either side of the road.
Note Booking for the Gondola = “cable car” Two stage ride MUST be made on line; & opens 15 days prior to one’s travel. Copies of the tickets sent by email must be downloaded as proof at each entry. There are time slots & it is advisable to go early to avoid the long queues.
We were advised to take a guide (Travellers own expense) & it proved to be good; especially for the long solo climb that I did to the snow top region. Where we took a lot of photos. Snow gum boots can be hired at the base camp. We did take them. (use your discretion).
The ride up to 2370 meters was very picturesque. In the winter all you see (we were told) is a white sheet of snow. Stage 2 was more of mist & clouds; still very exciting.
Of course another wait & queue for this stage too!
On reaching the top I chose to climb to the upper regions with my guide who helped me a lot after I told him my age, My knee which had a torn ligament, way back in the 80’s ( I was wearing my knee cap though) & my one eye (handicap) vision which causes a depth recognition error.
Enjoyed myself experiencing snow, with its challenges too. It did drizzle too causing mirror like patches - very slippery. But my guide a local is used to this type of climatic conditions. We took a lot of photos.
Descended & joined my wife back to base camp. Then went on sight seeing on horse back (Again charges are to be bore by the travellers, & dependent on the number of sites one...
