Chembra hill situated at Wayanad stands 2100 m above sea level, it is the highest peak in Wayanad district and is one of the best trekking spots. The mountain and the surrounding area is lush green and a treat to nature lovers. I love trekking and this was one of my favourite for many reasons. Hiked the mountain few years back with my father, a sudden decision to travel to Wayanad and on our way we did not know if we could even go up the beautiful mountain. Dad and I haven't hiked together since and so it makes it special. The mountain has exotic and rare species of flora and fauna and tall grass all the way up on the trail. The climb to the top is with the help of guides and since they are from the area, they guided us to the top safely. There weren't many people when we hiked, so it was peaceful and the guides were free to show us around. They showed us the whole of Wayanad from the top and it was mesmerising and beautiful. There is a bit of off roading at first to reach the office where the entry fee has to be paid and to the parking area. There is no road as such and the path has rocks all over, so make sure you drive slow and not damage your vehicle. I am not sure if the road is better now! After you reach the parking area, you need to walk for 15-20 minutes through a tea estate to reach the foothill where the climb begins. The walk is really beautiful and a treat for photographers and nature lovers. Once you reach the foothill, there is a two storey watch tower, with a decent view. From this point we are assigned to a guide and we start the climb. It is a good climb to the top and best way to the top is not to rush yourself, keep a steady pace with frequent breaks. All they way to the top you will see natural springs and do make sure you take water with you and more importantly don't throw plastic bottles that you carry. It is a non smoking area, since forest fires are very common, please avoid smoking. As you start climbing to the top, the view gets better and better. The best spot up top is the heart shaped pond which is one of a kind. Even though we are allowed to hike to the top of chembra, we do not really go to the top most point. We are only allowed to climb up to certain point and you can see that the top point of the chembra peak is even further up and is inaccessible to people as it is dangerous. Near to the lake we spotted an animal skulls too, you can see it in the pictures uploaded. We were told that the pond was used by animals. Even though we forgot to carry water, the guides got us water from a natural stream and it was the best water I ever had. We were asked not to follow the guides to the stream as the path was dangerous and they din't want people to go there. Had a great time with dad, made few new friends and after few hours of peaceful time with nature, enjoying the cool breeze and a few snaps from top we slowly trekked down the mountain and ...

Chembra Peak, nestled in the heart of Wayanad, Kerala, stands as a beacon for trekkers and nature lovers. As the highest peak in the region, it offers an exhilarating trekking experience coupled with panoramic views that are simply breathtaking. The journey to the summit of Chembra Peak is a blend of adventure and natural beauty, attracting visitors from across the globe to Kalpetta, the nearest town.

The trek to Chembra Peak is renowned for its accessibility to both novices and experienced trekkers. The path winds through lush tea plantations before entering dense forests, leading up to the peak. One of the most captivating sights along the trek is the heart-shaped lake, known as Hridaya Saras, which is said to have never dried up. This natural water body is not only a picturesque spot but also adds a romantic myth to the trek, making it a memorable experience for visitors.

The summit offers a 360-degree view of the surrounding Wayanad hills and valleys, and on clear days, the views extend to the Kozhikode, Malappuram, and Nilgiri districts. The peak is a part of the Wayanad hill ranges in the Western Ghats, known for their rich biodiversity. Trekkers often report sightings of wildlife and a variety of endemic plants along the route, making it a vibrant journey through one of Kerala’s most pristine natural environments.

However, visitors planning to trek Chembra Peak should be aware of the regulations in place to protect the area's natural beauty. The Forest Department controls access to the peak to ensure environmental preservation, and trekkers are required to obtain permission before embarking on their journey. It is also advisable to visit during the dry season, as the monsoon can make the trek challenging and risky due to slippery paths.

In conclusion, Chembra Peak offers an unforgettable adventure for those looking to explore the natural splendor of Wayanad. Its blend of scenic beauty, ecological significance, and the thrill of trekking makes it a must-visit destination for anyone traveling to Kerala. Whether...

Best trekking spot in wayanad and suitable for beginners. The trek is around 3Km and visitors are allowed to until heart shaped lake not to chembra peak which is highes point in wayanad due to safety concerns. Only 288 people are allowed per day. Please plan to reach this spot early in morning to get tickets especially on weekends. We reached this spot by 4.30am and got ticket. For a group of 5 people 4000 is the ticket price. Steel water bottles will be provided once you make payment for the ticket. And few shops are down there to have ur small breakfast. The chembra is known for the very famous heart shaped lake on top and breathtaking 360 view and challenging treks.

Only 200 tickets per day is available.the best walk I've ever had . It's steep , it's slippery & it's beautiful . Start the trekking early in the morning so that you will see the heart lake in snow . One of the awesome place I ever visited in my life with My family and friends. Good time to visit is September or when less raining. I visited last year September-2017. Do not take your own vehicle to reach End point. Once you reach starting point more safe to take local Jeep which is taking you to End point because that Road is only made for this kind of jeeps. If you take your own vehicle for sure you will return from half way. This wt I personally witnessed many of vehicles got damaged due to Road condition. Plastic Water bottles not allowed in this area better make alternative arrangements. Morning By 7Am is best time to Enjoy the nature beauty. Good place to visit for active people, the climb up is quite steep in places and is slippy, at least when we went, so grippy footwear is recommended. We arrived about 8am and the ticket buying is a bit of a faff, we hired jeeps from the local town to take us up as the road is pretty poor. The walk starts nice and easy with a stroll along a path above a huge tea plantation. As we went early it was nice and cool. The start is deceptive as once you have traversed to the first corner the path climbs quickly up and out of the trees. The guideline of 1.5 hours is about right dependent on fitness as the path climbs about 400m vertical. It was cloudy when we visited but the lifted sufficiently to see the peaks above us and get a good sense of the drop over the edge. It was a good day out.
