During the most critical and challenging times the world has been flung into by the Covid 19 pandemic. It does take a gigantic toll on family whose dear ones are victims of the gruesome virus. Well! One such day during wave 2 shook my family when my brother Ajay Bhonsle & his wife Nivedita Bhonsle tested positive. On day 5 their oxygen levels started to drop drastically. Dr. Smt. Bhagyashree Patil was very kind to admit them in her renowned hospital. Dr D Y Patil Super Speciality Hospital & Research Centre, Pune, stands towering to render relentless service to covid patients who reach here in desperate situations. The 2,000 bedded hospital houses covid patients on floors 8 & 5. Ajay & Nivedita were admitted with oxygen levels at 72 and 85 respectively. Wheeled into the Emergency ICU, both with comorbidities were going to be a challenge to the doctors who thoroughly examined them. Thus preparing them for their individual battles against covid. Ajay was very critical. He was shifted to Critical Care Unit, where his tryst with the ventilator began & continued for next 28 days. Expert Intensivists; their round - the - clock vigilance, an erudite team of specialists, dedicated nurses helped Ajay overcome his criticality with patience & precision. The staff is so warm & cooperative. They understand the anxiety of family & keep the family regularly updated. Solve issues so readily. Every day 2 ---3 Intensivists in PPE kits talk to relatives of patients in the ICU and CCU & answer their queries. I was greatly impressed by this system. The dissemination of health parameters on a daily basis can be so comforting to the family of serious patients. It doesn't end here, at times, they call family if the patient needs change of treatment or some complication occurs. I thank Dr Smt. Bhagyashree Patil for this human touch. It is like showing a torch in the tunnel! At the break of dawn, Lalitha Sahasthranam is played in the corridors of the wards. For enhancing positive vibrations, where the covid warriors are fighting to live. And yes they live..they do. I call this Holistic Healing. Spirituality combined with sophisticated medical infrastructure; where expert specialists wearing PPE kits examine the covid fighters with great sagacity. The necessary diagnosis is done proactively. In Ajay’s case such significant moves helped him to overcome the comorbidities very valiantly. I thank all the intensivists present in the CCU during those 23 days. Ajay’s ventilator gradually moved away to give way to oxygen mask.
Proactiveness, precision, treating the ailment in anticipation of its occurrence are some salient features of Ajay’s treatment in the Critical Care. Dr Jaideep, Dr Prasant, Dr Sachin briefed me about Ajay. Ajay's comorbidities were so many that he was treated by Cardiologist, Neprologist , Diabetologist , Urologist, Pulmonologist until the complication was treated successfully. I thank the specialists from the bottom of my heart. Having conquered the unpredictable & aggressive virus on day 25 , it was time to move Ajay into a step-down ICU for his rehabilitation. No hospital has this facility where the patient is taught pranayam & breathing exercises to strengthen lungs. A physiotherapist to train chest & lungs towards vitality. This is holistic healing. The trauma the body has experienced is addressed in this step-down ICU. Dr. P. D. Patil, Dr Smt. Bhagyashree Patil are heading a robust medical infrastructure. Their son, Dr. Yashraj Patil, shares duties with them in close proximity. The Patil family are in total control of every minute detail pertaining to this vast organization. Their administrative skills are reflected in the smooth functioning of the hospital. Spirituality & medicine mix so naturally & flow into the wards, OTs, ICUs to benefit all. I wish to salute every person associated with this organisation & profusely thank them for their tireless service in saving lives. Dr. D Y Patil Super Speciality Hospital is no less than a Temple of selfless Service!! My salutations and prayers to one & all. Stay...
Read moreFirstly I resepct to all doctor for their work but Today I visited this hospital with one of my friend and she is also a doctor in respected multispeciality institute in pune area, to take a look on one of my relative. I told her to check the reports and take a look on round files in a casual manner so she went to the incharge doctor (dr.afreen qureshi) and asked politely to her about the patients file and in response dr.afreen qureshi gave her a reply in a rude manner like "muze abhi round lena hai badme file lo aur raat bhar dekhte rehna". I have a question on this to hospital higher authority that when you appoint a doctors, are you really checked the behaviour of doctor towards patients or their relatives. We are paying for your treatment we are not came for free. One more thing, dr.afreen qureshi is resident in general medicine, she even dont have a humour how to talk with the person, not even know the basic etiquets to behave such a nonsense behaviour I saw today. I am totally afraid about the patients who are admitted there and taking tratements under dr. Afreen. Relatives are went to dr with the expectations that dr will talk politely and nicely but today I felt like they are doing favours or working for free and they can talk in any nonsense manner with anyone, she even didnt asked who is the patient, why are you asking for file, if there is any doubt I will make ir clear not a single word just told my friend who is also a respected doctor that go and do your work and came after my work is fifnished and take a file along for a night and take a look for a whole night as we dont have any work, we dont have any concern about our family members. I hope hospital authority will teach her politeness and how to interact with the patients and their relatives. Also I will visit hospital again and if that time I see the same behaviour I will raise a complaint with HR and higher authority of the hospital so the residents will understand their limits. One more rhing I have to add , the bedsheets of the hospital not even washed properly I can clearly see the marks of spoiled water or may be some another liquids marks are their. I cant even dare to touch or seat on the bed where my patient lying and sleeping and taking treatment for couple of days, do hospital really cares about patients or only the want money? to fill pockets...
Read moreMy experience at Dr. D. Y. Patil Medical College, Hospital and Research Centre, Pimpri Colony, Pimpri-Chinchwad. was not just disappointing—it was deeply traumatic. What began as a manageable health condition for my brother quickly spiraled into a critical situation due to a disturbing lack of urgency, professionalism, and basic compassion from the medical team.
Under the care of senior doctors, including Dr. Vijayashri Gokhale, Dr. Treeven Sharma, and Dr. Shirisha, we expected informed decisions and timely interventions. Instead, we were met with vague reassurances, contradictory information, and repeated delays. One of the major concerns was the recommendation for a paracentesis procedure to remove fluid from my brother’s stomach—a treatment that was clearly indicated but inexplicably postponed day after day. Despite meeting the clinical criteria, the procedure was never performed.
Worse still, senior doctors failed to visit regularly. When we asked about their absence, we were told they had other priorities. By the time they acknowledged the seriousness of the situation, it was too late—treatment options had narrowed, and we were left devastated and helpless.
My brother spent nearly 25 days in the ICU, and watching his condition deteriorate in an environment where accountability seemed absent was emotionally excruciating for our entire family. That sense of helplessness still lingers.
Healthcare is not just about science—it is also about trust, clarity, and humanity. When these are missing, lives hang in the balance. I sincerely hope Dr. D. Y. Patil Hospital, Pimpri-Chinchwad reflects deeply on its approach to patient care before more families have to suffer...
