Me and my wife choose Connacht Whiskey Company because it was the closest to where we were staying. The location was gorgeous, right on the river and close to Belleek Castle, if you have time stop by the Castle at the Cafe it was amazing and a great recommendation from Connacht Whiskey Company staff (Lindsay). When you come in and start the tour (I recommend the special tour) the distillery is quite small and really young, opened in 2015 and put their first whisky in barrels in 2016. They haven't bottled their first original Irish whiskey yet but when they do keep an eye out it will be amazing. They have a few Irish Whiskeys theysell which are blends and variations from other distilleries and they are smooth and very good. I especially enjoyed the Brothership Blended Whiskey, one of the master distillers is Irish-American and he blended 2 ten year old whiskies 1 from America and on from Ireland and made a great whiskey. The Ballyhoo is also an amazing tasting whisky as well. Our tour guide was quite green but very informative and he turned our group over to Lindsay and she was a powerhouse of information not just whiskey but other spirits too. The Connacht Whiskey Company doesnt have their own original whiskey yet on shelves (ageing it 4 years so 2020) but they have a great gin, vodka, and poitìn. Overall worth the almost 2 hour drive and a memorable experience. Can't wait for their whiskey to come out I hope I can get a bottle in my neck of...
Read moreWe defied the bright weather today and took part in a whiskey tour including a tasting. The price of €20 per tour is fully justified. As a driver or if you don't want to/can't drink, you have the option of booking a driver tour for €10. Luisa did a great job and even non-native speakers were easy to follow. Everything was explained again during the tasting. For me as a driver there was coffee and chocolate, which I found to be a nice concession, since you weren't just sitting there. In addition, gin could also be tasted, which of course led to shopping ;) The building is super stylish, great furnishings and everything is very clean.
We would highly...
Read moreAn excellent tour and tasting at a small distillery. After 150 years Irish Whiskey distilling has legally returned to Mayo County. Danika Dempsey was our tour guide and was a very knowledgeable multitalented mixologist and industrial engineer who provided an entertaining and indepth tour into the distillery's products and operations. Highly recommended stop if you are visiting Ireland. We also discovered there is a sister distillery in Philadelphia called...
