I'm a 46 year old male and from the US. This tour is great for groups or individuals. There are plenty of local places to eat nearby, and you're about a 2 minute drive from the beach which is also a must-see! The staff is so unbelievably kind, knowledgeable and talented that I cannot even explain. My group of 3 arrived an hour late after coming from the Glendalough Monastic Site in the Wicklow Mountains. There were no other time slots to accommodate us before their next full group would be arriving within the hour. So, they pulled their unbelievably talented historians, actors and actresses together AND GAVE US A PRIVATE 45 MINUTE TOUR! I was so shocked and humbled by this action that I regretted being late even more than I had originally! The tour was nothing short of FANTASTIC. From the graveyard, through the grounds to the top of the keep, staff dressed in period attire educated us on every aspect of this beautiful castle, and the learning experience was nothing short of AMAZING! Defining phrases whose meanings are lost to history such as "a square meal" and others I now knew as a result of their thorough explanations regarding nearly every aspect of life in middle ages (including how to blood let!). This tour is special because of the actors. actresses, and the comical twist they put on each story told. They had me laughing loud enough to embarrass myself! To top it off they have a gift shop that has some really unique items, such as Connemara marble coasters!!! Connemara marble was an item we were searching for on our trip and had yet to find it sold anywhere. Well we found it here along with the most talented, friendly and professional group of people I met on my trip to Ireland. I HIGHLY recommend this must-see tour and castle, and I thank all of the staff at Dalkey for a most wonderful experience on our trip to Ireland. Thank you all, and we will see you again next time (don't worry - I'll be on time...

I really loved it but wanted to work here and was disgusted the place all run by CE schemes so no real paid tour guide jobs as i visited for this purpose! I really liked the staff, the writers area, the costumed performers and the visitor centre timeline display was really easy2educate yourself reading alone. Visually perfect. Spotless. Lovely gift shop. Only missing a cafe but tons pubs n cafes esp Finnegans nearby. Lovely arial view up above castle. We walked up little narrow(not4the fat) steps- not many -to balcony overlooking Dalkey. Cool! Lovely graveyard outside visitor centre I really liked! I'm spiritual! I felt a presence, a good1! Lots couples buried in family plots. I read lots names and stories. I love gravestone inscriptions and it was beautiful old ruined church. I spent ages pottering happily there!! I was there about a year ago!! I got a great book in shop there called Glendalough by Cristiaan Corlett. Great book. Coffee table1. Huge full of large gorgeous pictures and good history by this local...

Absolutely! Here's a glowing review you could share online or with friends:

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A Magical Step Back in Time at Dalkey Castle

From the moment we arrived, the team at Dalkey Castle made us feel genuinely welcome. The customer service was outstanding—warm, attentive, and full of personality. Every staff member, from the ticket desk to the costumed guides, radiated friendliness and enthusiasm.

The tour itself was a brilliant blend of history and theater. The actors brought medieval life to vivid reality with humor, charm, and impressive knowledge. We met a barber-surgeon, an archer, and a cook, each sharing fascinating insights into 14th-century life.

The castle grounds and heritage center were beautifully maintained, and the interactive exhibits added an extra layer of immersion. Whether you're a history buff or just looking for a unique experience near Dublin, Dalkey Castle is a must-visit. Highly recommended—and hats off to the team for making history feel so alive...

We visited the castle very first time and it was great.First of all the door was closed because of wind. Staff was nice and let us in and gave tickets and let in despite educational video has already started. Then we watched the video and guide Bill took over showing us around and explaining who is who in the castle. Then actor with archer came to us, showing the arrows and the bow. He brought us to the roof and the views were amazing. Than we came back to castle and were met by medievial dressed lady. She escorted us back in time showed and promised feast, showed the table full of festivities. How teeths were extracted, the toilet and how it was functioned. Then we had a final spin around the xastle and that was it. Adult ticket is around 10 euro.

Absolutely wonderful bit of history. It is not often you get to explore the inner workings of an intact castle. The guided tour was informative and fun. The actors were fantastic and its a must do for any family interested in history. The graveyard and church are particularly interesting. The Tau Cross located in the church grounds is one of only four Tau Crosses in Ireland and the Rathdown slab is so well preserved and presented. Definitely worth a visit, Dalkey should be proud.

A fun, inexpensive "living history" tour of the old church and castle. The actors really enjoy their roles, and make learning about the history a fun, interactive process. I highly recommend stopping here for a tour, and grabbing lunch at one of the tasty neighborhood restaurants or pubs. The quiet train ride is maybe 35 mins from southeastern Dublin, and a really easy trip to do in half a day. Make sure to pick a day where the weather is nice since much of the tour is outdoors!
