G. Macari — Local services in Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown

G. Macari has been my go to for the last while for chipper after alternating between chippers in the area for a couple of years. However, I had a very disappointing food and service experience this week when ordering for delivery.

I ordered a dinner box (3 pces chicken w chips) and a battered sausage. Food arrived and my 'dinner box' was two tiny drumsticks and a handful of chips, which I had been charged a tenner for.

I called the chipper to complain about the fact that they gave me less chicken than I paid for (not even a chicken breast too) as well as very few chips. The simple response was 'it was all we had left. We gave you an extra battered sausage instead'. (Don't understand how. It was only 8.30pm on a Sunday)

This wasn't an extra battered sausage. It was the size of a battered sausage from any other chipper except it was cut down the middle to make it seem like two. I said that they should have called me to ask if I wanted to change my order, instead of taking money from me for food they didn't have. They didn't seem to understand this point. It also doesn't explain why they were so sparing with the chips.

I was still hungry afterwards. Absolute waste of €22 and will be taking my business to one or two of the other local chippers...

25 minutes for two bags of chips tonight (a Tuesday) , it’s meant to be fast food, I’d have been quicker cooking my own! The problem again is the really rude staff, no acknowledgment of this, no apology. At least tell me there’ll be a near half hour wait!! I’ve been going here regularly enough for years. If the nice lady isn’t working the place is a mess, the men are just rude ….and tonight, incompetent. It’s slowly been getting worse. A big problem for me is when you enter the shop you can often be standing there for a few minutes before they even acknowledge you and take your order and then its all too often done in an unfriendly manner (doesn’t happen when the lady is there). It’s almost like it’s a hassle for them. I’m done with it after tonight and will use other local places instead. My neighbour stopped using this chipper months ago because of the rudeness, I told him he was being a bit OTT but now I see his point. It’s quickly getting a bad name.

If somebody orders a bag of chips they shouldn’t be waiting 25 minutes no matter how busy the shop is, You’d nearly be quicker in a restaurant waiting for a full meal!! But….Again it’s the manner that it’s done in is...

What a disappointment. We used to go to this chipper at least once a week and the previous owners used to ask us how our dogs were doing, reffering to them by name. For many years they were friendly and the portions were generous they even gave us a little more chips as the dogs used to get them for their treats. Since having tried the chip shop on 3 different occasions, not just me but all 3 of us got food poisoning. As well as that our orders weren't correct. The whole system of you pay before your food is ready has confused a lot of people, who were used to paying once their order was ready. Why change a system that works? The quality of food has also gone down. I really did want to give the new owners a fair chance but at this stage we have decided to find a different chipper and to avoid this one...
