Being a vegetarian I am super fussy so excuse me if I give a long review..... Recently been to a neighbouring pub owned by a famous hotel owner, I thought I would get the veg stir fry. I had to fish for a vegetable and among the onions and peppers I found a shredded courgette I had to say I was extremely disappointed to fill up on noodles swimming in Soya sauce. The staff were very nice but the food disappointed me.
So today I dropped the car off for a valet and decided to run into the Speaker Connolly, quiet on a Saturday afternoon I was a little apprehensive at first but hungry all the same. I decided to go for it. I got a friendly greeting from the barman and when I said vegetarian he called the waitress to give me their options her being vegetarian too helped. There were 4 options so I went for the pasta don't know why as I am not a pasta fanatic. Well what can I say I am now. I had the most amazing pasta dish I could ask for with a lovely cream sauce I found one pepper and a small bit of onion but didn't really notice as it was full of veg and flavour.
This pub definitely doesn't get the recognition it deserves as I have heard good reviews I think it was under rated. If I could give 10 stars I would. It may not be all looking modern outside but a cosy old fashioned pub with friendly staff and fab food.
From the fussy vegetarian. Will be back again...
Read moreUnfortunately the exciting news as they put it, of being under new ownership has not done much for regular customers who have been there for nearly 30 years . Many have left due to the lack of consideration for folk who have sat in the same places over the years to now being told they can no longer sit there due to the area now being a service area . These are regulars who have kept this place going through the years along with bringing a community atmosphere to the place . They've all left . The new plan seems to be to rent a crowd from other areas of Dublin and turn the place into a "3 shots for a score" party pub. Definitely not a place to relax for a pint and a chat anymore on a weekend. Only local community pub in South Dublin throwing plastic cups on the tables at closing. .. this is a local .. not a nightclub. They'll have trouble with the eventual planning permission if...
Read moreHad the fish and chips. The fish was dry and brittle, didn’t taste right. Tasted as if it was put in microwave and then batter put on it. I sent it back and only had a few of the chips that came with it and expected it would not be on the bill and they they would just charge for chips. It was on the bill and when hubby raised the point about it not being edible they still expected us to pay the €16 for it 😡 we have come here a few times and the food was always lovely. Never had a complaint but not happy with our visit today. We shouldn’t have to pay for something that we could not eat! Tucking away in to toast now. Great...
