My ancestors came from this mystical place. On it is a small Celtic shrine and a tomb which remains unopened. My great-grandfather Paddy Hourigan was the unofficial guardian of of these sacred spots. Tountinna itself is lovely, covered in heather and golden furze, and the view atop the mountain can only be described as magnificent. On a clear day you can see 5 counties, as well as the Twelve Bens, the Slieve Bearnagh Mountains, the Silvermines, Keeper, the Bay of Scariff and Holy Island, the Shannon from Lough Derg almost to the sea, and the towns of Nenagh, Ballina, Killaloe, and Ogonelloe. The lights of Limerick sparkle like polished gems at night. And the sunsets--sublime. Go see for yourself. You won't be disappointed.
