宮島の中央にそびえる弥山（みせん）山上にある大聖院の堂宇のひとつが三鬼堂。 鬼の神である三鬼大権現（さんきだいごんげん）を祀る堂で、「福徳」、「智恵」、「降伏」の徳を備えた霊験あらたかな弥山の守護神です。 三鬼大権現は、真言密教の天狗信仰や山岳仏教の信仰対象となる鬼神で、厳島三鬼坊とも呼ばれてるのだとか。
