Walkway across Ozegahara in Oze National Park, Japan, Ozegahara, a sprawling area of marshes and moorland, is the green heart of Oze National Park. This large nature reserve spreads out over four prefectures in central Japan, and the Oze marshland in Gunma Prefecture is shadowed by Mount Shibutsu, seen in our image. Also featured are some of the park's sinuous wooden walkways stretching across waterlogged terrain. There are miles of these boardwalks, allowing for easy trekking around the park. They also shield much of the delicate ecosystem from too much foot-traffic—basically, they keep feet dry and plants untrammeled.

The high-altitude park is home to a number of beautiful alpine flowers, including the Asian skunk cabbage, which blooms after the last snows melt, and is much prettier than its name...

Visited in mid July. The weather was great in the morning. Temperature quite high, refreshing breeze in the mountain trail with lot’s of trees but not cold.

The hike was fun, trail is not difficult, beginner level. Depending how far you want to go, running/walking shoes are okay. Be careful of slippery wood pathway when wet.

Bring your water and snacks, the rest area’s foods & drinks are slightly expensive but still acceptable, good portion & okay taste.

In the afternoon it rained a lot! It was pouring hard, luckily we were back to the starting point just in time. Apparently, weather can change drastically in mountain so it is good to be prepared for sudden rain.

Very fun. Would like to come back in...
