The minute you walk in, you relinquish your shoes. Everywhere is tatami and so we walk in our socks or indoor shoes, an immediate plus and relaxing moment.||||Our room was called The Annex. It is apart from the hotel. The Annex is Japanese with tatami and western beds, very comfortable. When we approached the front door, the views off the private garden were gorgeously dramatic mountain cliffs and there are views of other mountains and the stream from the other side of The Annex as well. Spacious and open and extremely comfortable. ||||While many rooms come with a private dining room in the restaurant, the private eating room associated with the Annex also has another private garden with views of the mountains. ||||A small note: All liquids in the frig are complimentary, nice touch!||||The service was excellent, well trained.||||The food was delicious even though we have many dietary limits - like no meat, pork, heavy oils. They accommodated our restrictions with delicious, fresh fish and vegetables and fruit.||||The onsens, even though public access as well, were clean and designed beautifully. We've been to many ryokans this year, mainly in Kyushu since we live here. This onsen had the most beautiful facilities - and the views were drop dead gorgeous. My jaw literally dropped when I saw the view from the onsen with the lounge chairs in the steaming water - and what an amazing onsen that was!!!||||After much thought, the only downside is the outdoor tub in the Annex, which is really not an onsen since it used chlorinated water and the two of us had to squeeze in. Having said that, we already booked our next stay in the spring and cannot...
Read moreMy family and I stayed a night at Okuhita Onsen Umehibiki. This was one excellent modern ryokan and as of now it is still relatively new - under 2 years old. Given that its location is within a valley, it has good views of the nearby forests and hills. ||The ryokan offers a return pick up service to and from Hita station, which has to be arranged beforehand. Upon arrival, we were given some sweets and plum drink before checking in. We stayed in the deluxe room which came with an outdoor bath. I must say, we really enjoyed the room. The ryokan also has a pillow gallery, which has various types of pillow and the best ones get snapped up fast! ||Outside of the accommodation block, there are the outdoor and reservable baths (all guests must pay if want to use them) and the plum wine shop (which is affiliated to the ryokan) where one can participate in various activities and purchase plum wine. We did not try either baths.||Our meals were elaborate and did not disappoint. And they came with a plum based beverage - juice or wine. All served in a private room in one of the two restaurants, during the allotted meal time.||Service was excellent throughout our very brief stay. The staff is generally not fluent with English but they try hard to make our stay pleasant. ||Highly...
Read moreI would like to say i had bad experience staying in this onsen. Being sawing good reviews flying around, i purposely spend a day but unfortunately i think is not worth at all. First of all, i was impressed by the building design and polite staff. However during check in process, i was ask to stand awaiting their staff. However i saw others guess was lead to their bar and well served by drink and dessert during check in? Why it make so much different? Secondly, i was given one time usage cleanser? Is the hotel mean i only can wash my face either at night or morning? Besides, i found there is bottles sets of Sekkisei brand cleansing oil, lotion, toner at their public onsen while their room only provide small package per time usage? I had immediately drop an email to the hotel management and the manager come to explain during my dinner meal. He said because of privacy, we are lead to our room for explaination. I accept this explaination but as a Michelin standard onsen i think everything must be in sop without exception. Additionally i feel disappointed which i was not well treated and definitely not worth what i had spent. I not sure am i the one who facing this issue? But it definitely is it the worst...
