A shrine linked to the myth of the sun goddess, Amaterasu Omikami. The cave is said to be where Amaterasu hid after a dispute with her brother. It is located near Futamiokitama Shrine & Meoto Iwa (Wedded Rocks). Statue of the goddess, Ame no Uzume can be seen here who is said to have lured Amaterasu out of the cave by performing a lively dance. The morning sun rising from Meoto Iwa is also likened to Amaterasu Omikami, enhancing the divine atmosphere...

The site is interesting. Luckily it wasn’t crowded. It was a beautiful day, so we took many pictures. The husband wife rocks are loosely bound by huge sacred ropes. It does feel like a natural sacred place.

There are many frog statues as well. There is much charm in all of them. For Japanese people, the play on words for “kaeru” is fun. It can mean “frog” or “return.”

二見興玉神社の境内にある岩窟です。 稲を司ると言われる宇迦御魂大神（うがのみたまのおおかみ）を祀った三宮神社の遺跡と伝わっています。 全国に「天の岩戸」「天の岩屋」と称される場所があるそうですが、ここもそのひとつで、天照大神が隠れられた処（日の入処）のひとつとのこと。
