Akiyoshidō Cave (Yamaguchi) Review Akiyoshidō Cave in Yamaguchi is one of Japan’s most magnificent natural wonders. The enormous limestone cavern stretches for nearly a kilometer, with a cool, refreshing atmosphere that stays around 17°C year-round. Walking through its vast chambers feels like entering another world shaped by water and time. The highlight is the “Hundred Plates” (Hyakumaizara) — terraced pools that look like stacked dishes, beautifully illuminated by soft lights. Nearby stands the “Golden Pillar”, a giant column of mineral deposits glowing warmly under the cave lights. These formations truly showcase the power and artistry of nature. Another fascinating feature I discovered was a collection of pinkish, crystal-like stones found in the area. Locals lightly polish and refine them, then sell them as “energy stones” in nearby shops. I even saw similar stones being sold in Singapore — proof of how unique and special these natural minerals are. The cave is well maintained, with clear pathways, informative displays, and friendly staff. It’s an ideal destination for nature lovers, photographers, and anyone curious about Japan’s hidden geological beauty. Overall, Akiyoshidō Cave offers not only a breathtaking natural experience but also a deeper appreciation for the timeless beauty and mystery beneath the...

You can walk all the way through the cave and out to an exit on the other end which brings you up to some grass plains. Smaller than some of the massive cave systems in the US but more enjoyable to...
