Came across this attraction on a whim while all the way in Kyoto admiring Mt. Hiei. Once I saw the cable car ride was available I dropped my plans for the day and made my way over to check it out. Despite the weather being chilly during my visit (and the snow falling once I was left on foot to further summit) I had the best time and highly recommend putting the time toward a visit if you are in the area! The views are spectacular, you could spend a whole day admiring the temples and enjoying the trails.

Considered as the longest funicular in Japan. This is one of the transportation options to reach Hieizan and Enryaku-ji. An alternative is taking the bus. From the upper station, it's around 8-10 minutes walk to reach Enryaku-ji.
