Kamui Rock at Cape Kamui is one of the most spectacular natural sights I’ve ever seen in Hokkaido. The moment you walk along Charenka’s Path, the sea opens up in every direction — endless horizon, jagged cliffs, and the deep, almost unreal “Shakotan Blue” water below. The air here feels incredibly pure, and the scenery changes beautifully with the light.
Be warned though — the wind is very strong, especially near the tip of the cape. It can easily reach over 70–80 km/h on stormy days, so hold on to your hat and wear something windproof! On calm days, it’s just a refreshing ocean breeze that adds to the dramatic atmosphere.
The water is unbelievably clear — you can see the seabed and rocks shining through from the top of the cliff. Locals call it “Shakotan Blue” for a reason; it looks like someone poured sapphire ink into the ocean. No trash, no smell — just crystal-clear sea and clean air everywhere.
The walking path is about 700 m each way, paved and safe but with some steep sections, so take your time. Elderly visitors or families can manage if they go slowly.
Overall, Kamui Rock is not just a photo spot — it’s a place that really makes you feel the power of nature. Wind, waves, and silence all together. A must-visit if you’re exploring Hokkaido’s coastline.

We arrived at 17:32 which is 2 minutes late and we can understand that thats too late to be allowed, but the guy first completely ignored us, when we stepped out of the car he disrespectfully shouted to go away. Not a single bit of empathy considering we drove hours to visit the...
