Extremely Disappointing Experience – Rude Staff and Poor Service

This was one of the worst dining experiences I’ve had in Japan, primarily due to the shockingly rude behavior of the staff. I ordered the fried calamari, which was underwhelming — with very small portions that did not justify the cost.

What stood out more than the mediocre food was the unprofessional and aggressive attitude of the staff. A group of tourists, including children, were loudly yelled at by one of the employees simply because the kids opened a small snack, despite all the adults in the group having ordered full set meals. Instead of handling the situation calmly or discreetly, the staff member shouted at them to “GET OUT!” — loud enough for the entire restaurant to hear — while other employees laughed in the background. It was deeply uncomfortable and completely unnecessary.

I was also shouted at for sitting at a table without chairs while waiting for my order. There was NO signage telling me that it was not allowed to sit at that table. The hostility was shocking, especially considering how warm and respectful most people in Japan usually are.

Overall, the food was disappointing, but the service was what truly ruined the experience. I strongly do not recommend this restaurant to anyone — especially families or those expecting a typical standard of...

Cape Kamui is one of Hokkaido’s most stunning coastal destinations, offering breathtaking views of the Sea of Japan and the famous “Shakotan Blue” waters.

A well-maintained trail, known as the Charenka Path, leads visitors from the parking area to the cape’s tip in about 20 minutes, providing scenic ocean views along the way. At the summit, you’re rewarded with nearly 300-degree panoramic vistas, including the striking Kamui Rock sea pillar and a historic lighthouse. The trail can be narrow and exposed to strong coastal winds, so sturdy shoes and caution are recommended.

Visitors should also check weather conditions, as the trail may close during bad weather. Access is easiest by car, with free parking and basic amenities near the entrance. Whether you’re a nature lover, photographer, or traveler seeking tranquility, Cape Kamui offers a memorable experience with its dramatic cliffs, crystal-clear waters, and serene atmosphere—a true highlight of the...

Gorgeous viewpoint, but quite a hike and further than it looks. Took us roughly 1 hour out & back to the lighthouse and we passed several people who were definitely struggling with the walk. Bring your sneakers or hiking shoes and lather up the sunblock… we passed several people who were struggling in loafers, and some older folks who were having a bit of difficulty with all the stairs climbing up and down across the cliffs. My boys (5 & 7) were troopers and made it all the way to the final lookout… but if you have young kids or are not in decent physical shape, you might want to just snap a photo at the Tory and continue on to the Shimamui lookout a little further east along the road. Shakutan blue is totally a thing, and you’ll get a great appreciation for it no matter...
