Besar Island, Johor — Local services in Big Island

WARNING: Something YOU MUST KNOW about the island that nobody else writes about.

The island nice white sand beaches are, which are mostly very quite because infested with sandflies. One reason is that there are plenty of still water puddles around the beach. The other reason might be because they don’t fumigate the area. There are also cows next to the Bestari Resort, which seems to be a good enabler for sandflies to breed.

Another drawback is the ocean water. It is clear and pretty clean, but you can only swim peacefully late morning. The rest of the day you will find lots of sea-lice for sure - not to mention small jelly fishes, which they sting but are...

A small island but very beautiful. Consist of only 3-4 accommodations at the island. If I was not mistaken, there were 2 jetties but we didn't get to explore much because we only stayed for 1 night. Very calm (only 4 resorts) and picturesque island with rather rich sea life around. Great advantage is that it is only 30 mins boat ride from Mersing jetty. However, quite important disadvantages are sand flies and huge construction works just near the main pierce that spoil a lot this little paradise impression.
