Muzium Nelayan Tanjung Balau is a hidden gem that offers visitors a fascinating insight into the life and culture of traditional fishermen in Malaysia. Located near the scenic Tanjung Balau beach, the museum is well-curated and informative, making it a worthwhile stop for families, history lovers, and tourists looking to explore the local heritage. The exhibits are thoughtfully arranged, covering various aspects of the fishing community โ from traditional tools, boats, and nets, to stories of maritime folklore and even the darker history of โlanunโ (pirates). The highlight is definitely the full-sized traditional fishing boat on display, which gives a sense of the scale and craftsmanship of older times. The museum building itself is clean, air-conditioned, and well-maintained. Signage is available in both Malay and English, making the information accessible to a wider audience. Entry fees are affordable, and the nearby beach adds an extra layer of charm to the overall visit. Parking is ample, and facilities such as clean restrooms and a small souvenir shop are available on-site. You can easily spend 1 to 2 hours here depending on your level...
ย ย ย Read moreQuite a display here at the Fisherman's Museum Tanjung Balau. The entrance fee for foreigners of 10 ringgit (about 2 USD) is well worth it. The staff are friendly and place air-conditioned. The exhibits were curated well with the location historical facts then to myths followed by boat building then to the flora and fauna. There are plenty of interesting facts, dioramas, which could take you about an hour here. In addition to the Fisherman's Museum, the entry ticket also allows access to three other museums which are the Geology, Desaru Shipwreck, and Life Saving. The three others are on par, with interesting facts. The best of the three would be the Geology Museum which contains a lot of rock specimens, fossils and even a life-like statue of T-Rex. Highly recommended for family and museum...
