The beach is beautiful and the island is close to the city. However, there are wayyy too many tourists and boats coming and going, making it impossible to have a relaxing experience. More importantly, the impact on nature is evident and it does not look like anything is being done to minimise it and solve the already existent problems. For instance, you can see plastic all the way from Jesselton point in the city to the open ocean and most remote island beaches only accessible through some hiking or boat. ย ย ย Read moreThe GOOD: The beaches on the island were clean, the water was clear with abundant marine life. Life guards are there to keep a lookout. A small cafe offers food and drinks for a price but food quality is nothing to write home about.
The BAD: If you walk away from the beaches along the coast which was not sealed off, you will come across a pile of plastic bottles and other waste (see photos). Not sure if these were deposited by the waves or dumped there by someone. Question: how does the island staff dispose rubbish? Do they bring it back to Kota Kinabalu for...

A sunny day at the islands to get a tan and dive! The water was clear today and got to enjoy this view of the crystal clear sea!
Not many people on the island so we got to enjoy the beach and have a lil picnic with the many picnic tables to choose from. Beware the local wildlife, the monitor lizards are huge and will eat your food if left unattended.
The safety guards on the beach are very friendly and looked out for the safety of snorkelers and swimmers alike. Good to know someone is watching out...
