There were both positive and negative aspects to my experience, but the most disappointing part was that I never got to dive with them. Ot maybe it was a good thing after all.
Everything went smoothly before my arrival â communication was fast, and they helped me with flight tickets. They also picked me up from the airport and checked my equipment with care. However, when it came to safety and keeping their promises, I was very disappointed.
They had promised to arrange short-term dive insurance for me. We discussed it already during booking and again the day before diving. I even fill the reliability form that asked about insurance and I pointed out to the office guy and to the instructor that I canât fill the form because I donât have an insurance but they ensured me that i have to put no to every step so they know to buy the insurance. Still, I ended up on the boat on the first diving day without insurance. Of course, part of the responsibility was mine â I should have double-checked before getting on board. But I was tired after a 5:45 AM wake-up, excited about diving, and used to trusting that things confirmed several times would actually be taken care of. So I simply forgot to ask.
One instructor even questioned why I came to Fuvahmulah if I wasnât willing to dive without insurance, saying that insurances wouldnât cover the depths they usually dive at anyway. That comment left me really shocked.
They werenât able to provide me with the promised insurance that day at all, so I had to skip one of my already few diving days. I decided to switch to another dive center. I sent them a message explaining my disappointment and plans to leave â the only reply I received was a thumbs-up emoji 12 hours later.
I was really let down by how they handled the situation and by their communication. Some of my friends who dived with them also shared serious safety concerns. For example, guides reportedly exceeded depth limits (+40m) and left divers alone at 25â30m if they wanted to follow the max depth of 30m.
I didnât experience that myself, but itâs something to consider. If youâre thinking about diving with this center, I strongly recommend having a clear conversation about safety practices in advance â and making sure you feel comfortable with...
Read moreExtreme dive Fuvahmulah has been absolutely amazing! What a perfect team!! I dived with them for 5 days this week and I can say, without hesitation, that it was one of the best trips Iâve ever done in my life. All the team was very nice, helpful and attentive. They always think about safety first, dividing the dive groups in levels so everyone gets the best experience. We were a very small group (4-5 divers) which made the diving way better! Three guides would always come with the group, so if anyone wasnât comfortable going deeper or if someoneâs air consumption was higher, at least one guide would always stay with those people and lead them during their dive. All their briefings are very detailed about all the possible outcomes the dive can have, including different currents, wildlife sightings and behaviour and situations we could encounter. This helps everyone be aware of what can happen, how to act and understand their decisions! They are always checking that everyone is fine and they try their 100% to fulfill everyoneâs expectations and plans.
During the tiger shark dive, the three guides were always looking around the dive group and redirecting the tigers if needed. You will always have your front, corners and backs covered! I felt very safe at every moment of all the dives.
The boat crew is always checking on the divers and will help with everything! The captain follows the bubbles at all times so even if there was a strong current the boat was always close by to help and pick us up!
It has been an amazing week and I canât wait to join Extreme again!! What an unique experience! They are a team full of experience and smiles, always willing to give their best and make your trip unforgettable! I am very grateful I joined their team for this week and hopefully I will be back soon! If you want to enjoy Fuvahmulah on its 100% and get the best, join Extreme and your holidays will be above all your...
Read moreDiving with the Extreme team was an overall very good experience! The guys are highly motivated, they are all locals and you can feel they love diving and showing you THEIR island! We also got invited to a BBQ (with amazing tuna steak) and some sightseeing and a sunset trip đ€©
The experienced captain, the crew and their service was spot on, from dive roster to organization to snacks between the dives. The boat has a comfortable size. The equipment will be rinsed every day and is in very good condition and very new. The dive shop is very tidy and clean. Hotel pick-up, communication and flexibility in general was perfect, they can organize and book everything for you.
The tiger shark dives were very safe and relaxed, you'll have guides all around in case one of the tigers is a bit too interested in you đ
The tricky open ocean dive (Farikede) with lots of different currents, up- and downwellings was handled very well and good decisions have been made by Alham, it felt super safe đ
The reef dives were great but also VERY deep due to the nature of this unique island. This is great if you are an experienced diver, go for it đ€ I would have wished for these deep dives to not have been treated so lightly by the team, especially for the divers with few or no experience in deep diving, usage of a dive computer or no extensive knowledge of the whole decompression topic. I would remove a star because of this but since everything else was so great I just leave it as some constructive feedback, it's a constant learning process đ
Oh and if you don't see any Thresher Sharks, Tigers, Mantas or Hammerheads - the reef all around and especially on Thonduu is very healthy and has some awesome stuff to offer!
Thanks again to all the team, it was like diving...
