Carvv Grill and Enoteca — Local services in Saint Paul's Bay

18 October 1981 to 2021, our Ruby wedding Anniversary. We had planned to celebrate this special day as a couple. we chose Carvv steakhouse as sometime ago before Covid19 we had a celebration and it was 1st class. No regrets having booked our celebration dinner there. The welcome by Miroslav and Sanja made us feel at home. the food was impeccable. Specialising as a steak house gave ample choice. The price of the main course, unlike other fine dining venues, potatoes were not an extra charge. Not only that, but a soup was served as a starter, followed by an antipasto from a wide selection of salads, served by Sanja to collaborate with the protocol of Covid19. The Sommelier kept on topping up our wine glasses. Having given my wife a special anniversary gift, Sanja obliged to take a photo toasting with the glass of wine. Miroslav kept visiting our table to ensure nothing spoils our celebration. As the management were aware that I am diabetic they turned up with a surprise dessert and a cappuccino on the house. Two important points were that the bill was not an exorbitant one, and it included up to 3 hour free parking, a big headache when we go dinning in Bugibba/Qawra area. Arrived to find the front desk empty and when someone appeared to greet us to be told that cash was not accepted and if that was ok. Not really and it should have been disclosed at the time of booking but we were already there so decided to continue. Got the menus and ordered a bottle of wine which was fine but when we tried to order a fillet steak we were informed it "wasn't great quality" and not to go for it. We should have been informed when we received the menus if any items were not available as we would not have proceeded had we realised the fillet was unavailable. By that point the wine had been opened so we felt we couldn't leave. Instead of the fillet my wife ordered the salmon which was distinctly average and not worth anywhere near the 28 euro price. After our mains we just wanted to leave so asked for the bill. 10 minutes later the person we asked for the bill came back to the table to see if we wanted to order a dessert! We reminded them we had asked for the bill and then paid and left. Very poor performance after really looking forward to this meal after good...

Like some other restaurants (e.g., Batubulan sunset grill, Delos), Carvv Steakhouse is located within the Dolmen hotel complex on St. Paul’s bay. It’s a relatively new steakhouse that offers a more high-end dining experience than most of the other places in the vicinity. The restaurant feels very modern and it was a bit over air-conditioned (several people having to wear jumpers, despite the very hot temperatures outside, so certainly not very environmentally conscious). The food was delicious though: the steaks we ordered were very tender and cooked exactly as we had ordered them (medium-rare and medium). The chefs certainly know their craft! The sides and sauces equally didn’t disappoint and were very good. I can recommend the peppercorn sauce and the port wine juice for sure. The salad and soup buffet is forgettable to be honest. It’s included in the price but in most other steakhouses I’ve been to the variety and quality of this buffet is higher.
