I did the trail with the suspension bridge through Canopy River. We booked through our resort. My group of four did two single ATVs and one double ATV. Must haves: sunscreen and bug spray, UPF (sun) shirt, shoes you’re willing to get dusty, swimsuit if you want to swim and towel. We also packed water, wet wipes, first aid kit, and a snack. Things I wish I would’ve packed: gloves. I got blisters that hurt SO BAD. Provided by canopy river: helmet, goggles, bandana for face covering- bandana has to be given back FYI. It’s definitely a good experience even if you’re inexperienced on an ATV. I am inexperienced but they put it in gear for you and you don’t have to switch gears to drive the trails. It’s very dusty and hard to see at times FYI. I don’t know if all trails are the same but for ours, the waterfall was about the half way point and there is NOT a spot to change. I would wear a swimsuit underneath the clothes. The swimming hole was cold in mid- February but very refreshing. Everything down at the swimming hole was large and small rocks and it was very difficult to traverse. The rocks were wobbly and liked to move when you stepped on them. They gave us about 20 minutes at the waterfall before we had to go back to the ATVs. I did jump off the rock. It was very fun. I was the only one of my group to do so. The climb back up was definitely humbling. It’s quite steep. The next stop is the tequila shot before the suspension bridge. The view from here is quite picturesque. The suspension bridge is the last part of the trail. After the bridge, you immediately end up back at canopy river. You can use the bathroom and there’s sinks to wash up in. We did sit down at the restaurant to eat. It is well-priced and delicious. Everything was fresh. For two entrees and two alcoholic drinks, we paid $40. The tequila tasting felt rushed then we were back on the bus. The restaurant and the souvenir shop both took credit cards. They ask for cash tips for the bus drivers and the guides. From pick up to drop off, we were gone about 5.5 hours. We did buy the pictures from the company. They got great shots of our group of four. Between the four of us, we got 65 photos for $80.
Edit: the description said two suspension bridges but we only went on...
Read moreAVOID! A TOURIST TRAP! YOUVE BEEN WARNED! Positives: Beautiful scenery high up in the hills-a bit cooler up there Negatives: I never saw one single sign listing prices. Only people asking certain amounts-which appear to vary depending on whether you're a Spanish-speaking Mexican or a tourist or simply look stupid/gullible. THIS 'no sign thing' is a Mexican 'trick' so they can charge you whatever they think they can get. For me, they wanted $50 (per person) to simply walk across the bridge! I laughed in their face :) They evidently often ask for American dollars instead of pesos (as dollars are more valuable). They were the only ones to do this in my entire trip to PV. It's a BIG red flag
Overall: It's a nice place, very scenic but you will be overcharged for not much and there's no guarantee you know what the REAL PRICE ACTUALLY IS. If there even is "real price". Honestly, I suspect the drug cartels are running this place. Most of the men I met acted shady to me-I'm from NYC and I can recognize it. It's your money-if you want to waste it-they will gladly take advantage of your stupidity (and you innocent lack of knowledge about Mexican culture)! You can probably have a "good time" but you will dramatically...
Read moreGreat tour! Get driven out there in a bus, a 1 hour trip. If you are an avid ATVer, the slow pace of the tour, if you have inexperienced drivers, can be trying. Beautiful scenery, aside from the dust. If you don't like getting dusty, don't go. Midway stop at a beautiful waterfall watering hole. Trails are twisty turny, shallow to steep slopes, hairpin turns, some areas rough, or cobblestone, or rutted or pot holed ... just enjoy it! Another stop before the long bridge crossing for a Bano break and grab a dose of liquid courage . Once across, then enjoy a meal and drinks (for a fee), look at the memorable photos the guides have taken of your trip that you can purchase, and enjoy the infinity pool views! Only drawback, is that the pool is not heated, making it a shivering swim! Ready to leave? You ride in an open air bus for the hour ride back. It's a day long trip, and worth the money. Bring cash for food, drinks, tips. Wear clothing you can get dusty. Bring swimsuit and towels. Best to bring those things...
