It was a rather disappointing experience given the good reviews we saw. Firstly, we were the only 3 people in a 30+ people group that didn't speak Spanish. We signed up for an English tour, and this is what we ended up with. We didn't even know the tour has started since we saw the guide speaking in Spanish to the large group. It wasn't until the photographer came over to us and told us that this was our tour when we knew to join the group. By the time we joined, the guide was already finishing up the introduction and we had to catch his attention to let him know that this is supposed to be a bi-lingual group.
As one can imagine, the guide, with no fault to him, was focused on explaining everything in Spanish. He would give us a short synopsis in English at the end of every explanation. It was literally about 6-8 minutes of talking in Spanish and he would explain something to us in 2 min. I would imagine there was a lot of details left out. The guide was fluent in both languages and tried his best to accommodate us. But we definitely felt like the outcast. I would say if you're signing up for an English group, know that this could what you can end up with.
The cenote was an underground one. We've been to other cenotes in the area by then, and this was definitely not a highlight. We also purchased lunch but have had better food in many other places around Yucatan. The venue was nice but overall, I don't think this tour was worth it for the price. We just felt like a herd of sheep being moved from one place to another. You...
Read moreDespite the actual experience being excellent with very gracious guides, other workers on the tour, and food, giving this 1 star due to the dishonorable business practices of the owner. I came with a friend who called to purchase tickets several days ahead and was clear we wanted Sunday morning, she was given a link and bought tickets. When we arrived, they said our tickets were for the previous day and would not be honored. There was no language issue as my friend is a local, and she owns and operates a 40 room boutique hotel in Meridia so clearly has no confusion how to buy a ticket for something. She was interested in this experience to recommend to her guests. Since we had driven an hour to get there. and after 15 minutes of trying to get them to at least give us some credit towards purchasing new tickets, the tour was starting so we had to purchase new tickets, so a 3 of us paid DOUBLE price. There was plenty of room on the tour, and no reason for them to treat us like this. In our businesses we always strive to be most accommodating and this was totally opposite. Unfair and shady. I hesitate...
