I used to really like going there but over the last while things have progressively gotten worse. I've found you have to be careful as price reductions/specials are often out of date with the excuse being "We've forgotten to take them down..." or words to that effect... (this has happened at least four times!) When I've called to complain they offer to refund the difference, but that's not the point... it's the principle... I can only wonder how many other people have succumbed to this. When I'm in a hurry and pop in to grab only a few items there never seems to be any baskets... they're quite often all up next to the check outs and staff obviously cannot be bothered moving them to the entrance of the store. Last night was the last straw (09/01/2019) I stopped in to grab a box of beer and went to the self checkout. The young guy who was on duty at the checkout rung the bell to get a senior staff member authorised to sell alcohol to help... I stood waiting and waiting and exchanged glances with the young guy... he then rung the bell a second time and was told, rudely, to "hold on!" Now if the 2 older ladies were discussing something important or if the store was busy (which it wasn't!) I might understand... but these two ladies were simply having a good old natter session which I was clearly disturbing! I work in the customer service industry and this behaviour was deplorable... I couldn't believe how little regard these ladies had for me as a regular customer, so I just walked off disgusted! And no they aren't new employees, after years they are still painfully slow... Today at 1:30pm I visited the Cafe for the first time. There were quite afew people. However I only ordered takeaway food (no coffee that took time, nothing was heated) it was as simple as putting what I ordered in a bag. The lady behind the counter was not friendly, after paying she continued to take orders for another 3 people behind me in line rather than just putting my sandwiches and scone in a bag so I could leave. Extremely frustrating!!! After standing patiently for quite some time watching others behind me place their orders I asked "was it going to take much longer to just put my things in a paper bag?", younger girl knowing half a story doing coffees decided to pipe up after overhearing me & said "we are quite busy there's only 2 of us" Yes perhaps you are, but don't continue to take orders from others behind that took 3 times as much time rather than just put food in a bag for someone who was...
