New Plymouth Airport — Local services in North Island

Newly opened last year, this is so much improved on the previously tired and worn buildings. Rather than try and upgrade the bold decision was taken to build new, and bulldoze the existing location. The result is a modern, stylish airport which is geared not just to serve the currently sadly very reduced due to Covid travellers, but geared up to allowed a really good entryway into Taranaki for national flyers now, but also with the potential to become an international Airport if/when the runway can be extended to accommodate long haul jets. Good facilities, a really spacious design, and a design which is heavily influenced by NZ history and culture, its represents a great example of local design and craftsmanship, a great space to arrive and depart from, and not a bad place to spend an hour or two just watching the world go by. Delayed flights is not the complaint. Poor communication is. Can definitely improve updating passengers on delayed flights. We were due to depart to Auckland from New Plymouth today at 11:50am. Delayed saying 2pm. Then 2:30. Then 2:50. Then 3:15… you get the picture? When updating people give them honest updates so they can plan being “delayed”.
