Southern Spit Roast & BBQ Catering — Local services in Papakura

Personally, I wouldn't book Southern Spit Roast again. They did catering for our wedding in December and it was a big disappointment. The staff were inattentive and gave bad service - my guests had to ask for more food because they hadn't replenished the serving dishes when needed throughout dinner, as well as me (the bride) having to ask them to get up and help, when they should have been helping the whole time. What's the point of having "excellent" staff there if they're doing nothing? They left out two dishes from our order completely, which I noticed and had to point out to them! The biggest disaster was the fact that we paid for a cake cutting service from the staff (they had assured me by email that someone with experience would cut my cake) - the staff member cut our cake in the worst possible way that made our expensive wedding cake difficult to serve to a large number of people, so many pieces of our cake got wasted. Not only that, but my mother (the mother of the bride) had to spend her time instructing the person on how to do the job!!! If I had known this I wouldn't have allowed this person to cut my cake. Southern Spit Roasts's excuse afterwards was that they were low on staff due to COVID-19, but where was that communication BEFORE the wedding day? I found their communication really terrible. In the end we got a "refund" for the $50 cake cutting fee and the two dishes that they missed out, but I don't think it actually added up to the amount that was lost from our food order, as well as my wasted wedding cake. I also have been told by other people recently that they hadn't had good experiences with Southern Spit Roast at other weddings, so I don't think COVID-19 is a good excuse. Overall, I'm quite upset with how it turned out for my special day - the lack of communication and terrible service was a huge let down and made dinner time so much more difficult than it...

Just wanted to send a huge THANK YOU very much to the SSR team that came out for my graduation function on the 15th December 2018. They were efficient, courteous, unobtrusive, and set up and packed down in a timely and professional manner. Even though lunch wasn't bang on at 12pm (15mins late - on our part) but they were friendly and went with the flow 😊

The food was amaaazing, and in abundance (because we Islanders love our food and then some lol) and compliments to the chef and team for the fresh and delicious food that was on offer (the Thai spiced curry, ham and crackling were a hit)!! My family and guests were blown away with how different but filling the food was, and it was testament to the standards that you have for your catering. Shelley, you were awesome in communication and flexibility with payment options and I thank you for making it so easy to liase with :) Will definitely be using SSR again!

I don't usually post reviews but just had to, as our experience with Southern Spit Roast & BBQ Catering was amazing! I was a bit nervous having never used a caterer before, but wanted to take the stress out of having all our family organise the food for my Dad's 75th Birthday, so they too could enjoy the day.

Right from the first online enquiry, to Shelley phoning to confirm what would happen, then Lisa looking after us on the day, such excellent service! Friends & family were raving about the food and Lisa! Please ensure you pass on our thanks to Lisa from our whānau, as she was so professional and did a fantastic job; setting up the buffet tables, heating the food, displaying everything so beautifully, clearing our tables and food scraps, dishing any leftovers into our own containers, then packing everything away! Note I referred your company to a few family & friends who asked, as can't emphasise how yummy the food was and such an impression it made. 10 out of...
