Rotopokaka, commonly known as Coca Cola Lake, is a unique and enchanting destination. The lake’s distinct tea-colored waters, which resemble the color of Coca Cola, make it a fascinating natural attraction. The setting is serene and beautiful, surrounded by lush native bush and offering a peaceful escape into nature. The water is warm and inviting, making it a great spot for a refreshing swim. The lake’s unusual color is due to the tannins from the surrounding vegetation, adding to its unique charm. The area around the lake is well-maintained, with good access and clear signage. It’s an ideal spot for a relaxing day out, whether you’re swimming, picnicking, or simply enjoying the tranquil surroundings. Highly recommend Rotopokaka (Coca Cola) Lake for its unique and picturesque setting. It’s a must-see natural wonder that offers a distinctive and memorable experience.

Okay, it is great to drink Coca-Cola ( I mean the real one) here.

Lake is beautiful to see and for a morning swim. We also spent few nights at the beach next to the lake (free-camping for self-contained). You have the perfect view of the sunrise from there. Breathtaking. Public toilets are also a few minutes' walk away. There is a free cold shower. This place is so far our favorite of all the free campsites on the North Island. Enjoy your visit there!

A bit of fun, who would have thought that you could swim in that! When you arrive you look at this dirty dark water and think to yourself there is no way that's safe, however everyone we spoke to said that the water had been tested and it's so safe that you can drink it! So clothes off swimming togs on and in we went. Because of the colour it warms up in summer faster than the sea and was warm and refreshing....
